As an European customer, i feel betrayed as this game will be very likely digital only in Europe.
To make it worse, the physical version is an exclusivity of the NIS America store. So no preorder available for me.

I guess, i will get a standard edition for $40-50 through Ebay and the likes, that not including shipping cost and imports taxes.

Comparing "The Firefly Diary" and "Criminal Girls", i predict that within a year "Criminal Girls" price will drop around $30 for a brand new copy while "The Firefly Diary" will be around $50-60 for SE et $70-80 for the limited edition. Within 3 years the "The Firefly Diary" LE will reach $90-100.

It's much like a reenactment of the release of "Mana Khemia 2 : Fall of Alchemy" in worse because this time Europeans are aware that they will not have a physical version and can't one get it through any North America store or website. Meanwhile some persons have purchased multiple copies of the LE ans SE for reselling 2x-3x the tag price much akin what is happening with the Zelda New 3DS pre order.

I feel myself no longer motived to preorder any NIS release in Europe as i did for the last 2 years and half. it was still worth the laughter that i was the only one preordering that sort of niche games in my local brick and mortar game store.

Reeeeaaally don't think you understand what kind of game this is.

It shouldn't be compared to Criminal Girls, first off. It sucks you guys didn't have a chance at the physical version, but we're still talking about an N1 indie-like game. This is not a normal run game. It was always meant to be primarily a digital thing. Criminal Girls is a retail game, this is a game that got a special limited run of a physical version. There are huge differences between the two.

I really understand what kind of game it is.

As an Europeans customer, i want was a fair way to get a physical copy of the game.

I really don't understand how NIS marketed this game knowing that the Japanese LE is currently around $130-140 for a brand new copy and that the English release has better stuffs and much wider audience.

Bottom line It's a marketing train wreck and failure.

Again, you clearly don't. Are you complaining Hotline Miami or Jetpack Joyride didn't get physical Vita releases? If you aren't, then you shouldn't here.

I do think it sucks that EU didn't have the chance, but this is not a retail game. Don't think of it like how, say, Shinovi Versus only went digital in Europe. That's not the same thing. The boxed version wasn't even originally going to happen here and it existing is probably why the game's release date was pushed back.

It doesn't matter to me whatever it's an indie game or not.

Your point of view is comparing indie game vs full fledged studio game release. From your point of view, it's a miracle that this game has a physical release.

My point of view is from someone who collects video games in physical format. From my point of view, it's a marketing failure. NIS failed to handle the fact that their very limited release will be the only English physical one for the whole world save for an hypothetical Asia release. Meaning that in the long rung the demand will far outstrip the offer.

The US release of Firefly Diary is a pretty big success. You don't go up to a first-party developer and say, "I wanna make this thing" and they just do it. Each first-party developer has some sort of minimum amount that needs to be ordered. Some even have strange criteria. Back in the DS days, Nintendo would put developers in line, and they would have to go to the back of the line for reorders, since they apparently did everything in Japan. Who knows what other restrictions Sony has there.

As I mentioned in a previous posts, there are many mouths to feed. Perhaps the threshold was too high for someone, whether it was retailers, the distributors, or NISA themselves. In the bleakest, most black and white terms, if the game presented an opportunity for everyone to make money on it, everyone would have agreed. But if there was just one link in that chain of command that says no, it doesn't get done. I think that's where petitions and the like actually come into play. It may not be enough to fully convince an entity to act, but it does show interest, and that's important.

Regarding the purchase of a physical version, Play-Asia has it on sale for $24.99. I don't know if that's the US version in particular or an Asian release with the English game inside.

I also saw the Asia version pre order but no information on whatever it will contain English language.

What is most annoying is there is no communication from NIS Europe concerning the European release, you can check the official NIS Europe facebook and find nothing regarding "The Firefly Diary" (i checked back to October 2011).

NIS Europe doesn't exist (although I think it did at some point about five years back). It's all NISA now.

Europe might be a harder nut to crack due to the many countries it houses. Even if the Vita sells better in PAL regions over the US, you're dealing with just one distributor versus what might be several. That's not to say it's the distributor's fault either, or really anyone's fault in particular. It could have just been a difficult situation with no easy answer.

Now I know it's not an ideal situation, but the LE is available on ebay for about $55, and there are people who will ship worldwide. With shipping, it seems that brings it to $75. Not perfect, but a far cry from the $130 it would be for a Japanese version of the game with Japanese text in the art book and on the OST.

You could've pre-ordered the USA version from Play-Asia while they had them in stock (they don't anymore).

I'd much rather order my copy through NISA's European store myself, but at least it's a work around. I'm shocked there's a physical release at all, to be honest.

So anyone gotten word from NISA that paid with PayPal and had to contact them directly? PayPal wouldn't let me send the payment directly and I haven't heard back from NISA after nearly a week. I know they said it would be slow, but I'm not sure how slow to expect.

I know for some people the payment wouldn't go through unless they switched to the classic Paypal website/layout, so maybe try that.

I switched to classic just to be safe, and I got an email today confirming that my payment was received.

Well I'm hesitant to try again now that I've contacted them. I don't want to risk a double charge.

I guess I'll have to call them and see what's going on.

Anyone get a confirmation on shipment yet? IIRC I got my last shipment confirmation Saturday afternoon, so I'm jumping the concerned gun a bit but with that whole paypal fiasco I'm hoping they received my payment. The store isn't all that helpful.
