Yeah, I looked through Nintendo's Help forums and learned of a Cleaning Kit. Hm...$9.99.

But I don't want to let my wii go....I'm going to try cleaning the lens at least 10 times before I send it.... maybe

You're getting the same exact freeze as I do? If so, then at least I'm not the only one...

I'm having problems with my Wii freezing up, too. I'm in the second part of the episode 4 boss battle and the system freezes each time I try to switch the stratagem. I continuing from a discontinued point and I've tried the suggestion in this thread (shutting off WiiConnect and getting a lens cleaner) but it still happened. I went to the store to replace it with a new copy and it still freezes when I try to switch to a different stratagem. My Wii is only a year old, this doesn't happen with any other game (in fact, this is a first time for me having this problem) and I don't play it very much. Any suggestions or should I just give in and send it to Nintendo? Will that even help?

Apparently, it's an issue with dual-layer discs. lol Just keep trying. Or do something different in the game than what you were going to do. And if you get passed that point, Discontinue so you won't have to replay that part if it happens again.

Or get the Cleaning Kit thing.

Does Nintendo make its own cleaning kit, or are people using 3rd party ones?

I've seen an official Nintendo cleaning kit at GameStop numerous times, but I'm not aware of a 3rd party version.

It's $9.99 on Nintendo's store. I haven't seen one at stores, but then again, I haven't been looking. I'd prefer to only use Nintendo's product, though...

NIS support Sux! and I mean it. I wrote them an e-mail complaining my problems wit hthe Wii Game Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love and over a week and I never get a reply from them. So I am posting my complains here so everybody can know how bad their support is. I hope the next Sakura Wars game on Wii won't be published by them, but instead by SEGA who is truly know to have bug free games (in most cass).

Okay here;s the problem I'm having with the game. My copy of Sakura Wars freezes a lot. SO far, I had made count, it had frozen at least 10x throughout the whole game from start to the end. I beat it once. So for people still having troubles with their games freezing up, my solution might work for you just so you can beat it once.
If it weren't the freezing/lockup problems, I'd have beaten the game at least 3x by now... I am still on my 2nd attempt for now. After I'm done unlocking everything I'm done with this game cause the freezing/lockup are so annoyance I won't even bother coming back (try beating the last two battles over 10x cause of freeze/lockup problems and you'll get the idea of frustration.)

Okay, so far, the game has a total of 10 freeze/lock up point. Mostly from battles, and 3 from cut scenes. CH7 & 8 has the most freeze/lockup problems from battles and heavy cut scenes. To avoid this issue, I turned off vibration, turn on instant text scrolling, auto text scrolling, and voice and keep on pressing B-button as soon as possible when there's a heavy cut-scene of after boss special moves cause that will slow down the game to a freeze/lockup. I manage to do the above and beat the game even though the freeze/lockup still persist but not so frequently. Also, avoid doing Special Moves or Joint Attack when your near defeating the boss cause that's when it usually began to freezes/lockup again.

Okay now to address to NIS support. I read a lot on the internet to know about Sakura Wars Wii freezing problem. Though I cant find much complains, there are some, probably because most grew bored of this game with too much texting and reading to make it close to CH6 -where the freezes/lockup start popping out in the game. Still, NIS suggest the problem lies with the Wii system having problems reaing Dual Layer disc, but my Wii can read Super Smash Bros. Melee flawlessly, which is alos a Dual Layer disc from Nintendo years ago. So this can't be the problem. I took it might be my lens dirty, so I spent $15 to order Wii Lens Cleaning Kit from Nintendo and cleaned my Wii. Still the problem arises, though not so frequent. The game wouldn't freeze wit the buzzing sound but it still lockup at the exact same place.

I also read the PS2 copy of the game suffer this same problem. So is NIS trying to say both the PS2 & Wii can't play Dual Layer disc correctly, and what the odd of both version freezing at the same place? I think the problems lies more with programming bug issues more than a lens issue. I think NIS should recall their game and test out all bugs before this release another Sakura Wars game since this game has been out years ago.

If there are indeed bugs in the game, please rerelease the game without bugs. This my first time to play Sakura Wars in English and the bugs make it a very bad experience.

Feel free to comments everyone.

You really mean Brawl, right?
Are there any scratches on the disk? Exactly how old are your Wii and PS2?
Nice username and Sega bringing this over? Even with more people knowing about the series now, I doubt they will bring it over.

Yes, I mean Super Smash Bro.s Brawls for Wii, not melee and it played flawlessly, even if there are slight scratches. I just wish SEGA can port over this game themselves cause it's a great game. Just not many people played this type of game before. I wouldn't mind anyone bringing it over, just please make sure the games work with no bugs in the first place. I rather have a game without bug or wait longer.

My copy has no scratches. I even tried two different copy. and I even went as far as to load the game through the USB (google USB loader) and it even have the exact same problem. So you can rule out disc scratch problem. Since SSBB works on my Wii, I can pretty much rule out the dual layer prob. Now last is the programming bugs which NIS has yet to speak about on WII & PS2 version some people experienced.

In the above I wrote how to avoid this issue, but I made some type error, the correct setup is this.
Turn off vibraton.
Turn on Auto text scrolling
Turn on Instant text scrolling
Turn off voice vocal
and press B-button before and after Super Moves, either from Bosses or your own teammates
also avoid using heavy attacks like Super-moves or Joint attack near the end of battles cause that would slow down the game to a near lockup. It all else failed before, this might be the only solution before sending your Wii to Nintendo for repair or change your lens. ( I still remember someone mentioning this problem to NIS and NIS told them to contact Nintendo and Nintendo tell them to contact back NIS and NIS hadn't gave a reply). I wonder who really bear the responsible.

Older Wii systems have a problem with dual layer discs.

Save during the eyecatch screens only. Do not use "Discontinue."

If you last quit your game with a discontinue, load it, discontinue immediately, reload, finish the battle, then save at the eyecatch. After that point, do not use discontinue again.

If you're still having problems after this, post back here.
