Sales, etc: Support group for Sakura Taisen addicts

According to a questionable source (guess  ), Sakura Wars (PS2) alone has matched Disgaea 3's 1st week sales numbers for North America. 3.3:1 PS2:Wii. If it follows that pattern, the total could eventually land between 100-200k. IIRC, Mastiff was once skeptical whether STV could reach 70k for it to become a feasible project. I think NISA should top that easily.

Although this is perhaps not as applicable, the numbers are concrete; I can share that the gamefaqs guide had 6000 hits from 2005-2009, 5000 in 2010, and recently 400-700/day. By comparison, a short math faq I did for a Grandia III mini-game topped out at 80k hits, maybe 50k of that in the first 6 months.

Edit: cleaned up my numbers
Edit 2: changed thread title

I have to admit, I'm rather impressed by those numbers if they are true. I think the game created just enough buzz as well as received enough positive reviews to sell as well as it has.

It makes me a little sad at the same time, knowing we and some videogame companies missed out on a great/profitable series after all this time.

You so reminded me of their old jingle... in an ironic way.

Freaking love this game, worth the hassle I went through to get it.

Hmmm....I wonder if it's people like Red who're buying numerous copies. I asked my buddies at their respective electronics stores (Best Buy, Gamestop, Game Crazy, Fry's) and the sales weren't that good....some said they didn't sell any and others said only like 1-2 copies.... :|

I'll comment after NPDs are out and the "questionable source" goes back and edits their numbers to match. I know it's tough waiting, but real numbers should be out next Thursday, and while I doubt Sakura Wars will hit the top ten, I'm betting there will be a reliable leak or two.

I hope it does well for them and maybe it will do well enough to convince them to bring the other titles over. Personally, I would be cool downloading the other 3 games over the PSN subbed.

You might check Amazon.com. The PS2 premium edition is sold out and Buy.com only has one left according to Amazon. Amazon still has copies of the Wii version in stock... 4 of them, with "more on the way". :D Buy.com only has the Wii version from third parties.

Wow... Usually Amazon can keep new releases in stock longer than this.

I blame the rabid fanbase.... Most have bought out most of the major retailers. I've checked a couple of smaller stores and they're all running low. I'm sorry, but I think Sakura Taisen "fever" has reached the west, and it seems people can't get enough.

All from one game too. And on top of that... one that most fans would consider the worst in the series(whatever that means, because I enjoy it all the same).

It's the desperation of an American market starved of quality mecha SRPGs. And the four sets of boobs. If it has robots and boobs then Americans will buy it. Look at ZOE. Not just robots and dicks. Robots WITH dicks. So if it has robots and boobs/dicks, Americans will FUND IT. Which I'm not sure is entirely a good thing. But the market has spoken! Mecha sex sells.
Lowering the price of the PS3 to $150 is like mass producing the Big Zam. It's the greatest idea that will never come to pass. OH SHI-!
