Prinnies, Battle Suit, and the female Armored Knight are my all time favorites at the moment. You can never go wrong with Prinnies  .

I would be very worried if they started making male nekomata.

If they got Yattanyas japanese voice actor, I wouldn't mind, one of the best evil laughs in video game history.

Yatanya?

In any case, I'm less concerned about the voice and more the appearance.

Incubus might be... interesting though.

Yattanya is a cat Pirate from La Pucelle. (sprites, design)
He's cool, and has a superb evil laugh.

I like the original Female Samurai best. Her design isn't the same in any of the later games. My first uber-powerful character was one of these.

I think all of the original designs were changed a little. And I too liked some of the designs of Disgaea 1 more than the later ones (like the female mage or the Majin)
I also liked the mix between simple over the top and completely ridiculous special attacks from Disgaea 1.
In the most recent part (D2), there are just to few "non completely over the top" attacks for my taste.
(of course it has enough improvements to make up for these deficiencies)

I honestly haven't noticed any real changes in the style of special attacks. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. I play with animations turned off most after the first 20 hours or so.

Likewise. It gets to a point where I just want to play after a while.

They changed the skaling, it used to be simple attacks geting more flashy and over the top.
If you look at attacks now, say bows, the fierst attack involves creating a smal black hole, the second multiple screenfilling lighrays.
Personally I miss having two or three attacks that are, well less flashy and more looking like something that could exist in a fantasy setting that tries to mimic our laws of physic to at least a lesser extent.

Anyway most of the time I skip too, but not always, every few ours I look at them again for some time. Not so much in D2 though as most of em are too over the top for my taste. The over the top attacks should be the crowning moment of awesome finisher, not the standart attack for standart mooks.

It's Disgaea, though. All rules and scientific laws are thrown out the window, and special attacks are supposed to be ridiculously over the top because Disgaea doesn't take itself too seriously and basically pokes fun at RPGs in general.

....That's what I think, anyway.

And I kinda wish that Overlord's Wrath was more like how it was in Disgaea 2. It just hasn't looked quite right since...
