Thanks for sharing this SergeantBooduce. Never heard of this before but it has gained my interest. I think VN's have a good chance at present to gain appeal thanks to the info the internet provides and this title seems worthy in trying out. I also would be satisfied if it were to be released as a DD game for starters.

I think that the PS3 version might possibly receive a translation patch, considering that it's actually possible to do so now. This, on top of the fact that there is already a full English translation for the majority of the episodes, on top of how there's no ero, means a translation patch or localization might come to light.

Honestly though, it's entirely in the hands of Witch-Hunt. A company, not necessarily NISA but any one in particular, would have to buy the translation script from Witch-Hunt much like how XSEED bought the Ys Felghana English patch. Ryukishi07 is already aware of Witch-Hunt's English translation patches and seems to be fine with them.

Umineko is possibly one of the most recognized visual novels in the western fanbase, and although the transition to PS3 is weird and confusing--since most visual novels are for 360--a lot of visual novel fans tend to have PS3s over 360s.

In short, NISA would have to buy the translation off Witch-Hunt, Ryukishi07 would have to approve of the localization as well, since... well, he created the games. Apparently Alchemist have no English division for their releases, so they wouldn't be a problem.

I would buy this if it were digital download, but a disc would be better.

You make a good point. I'll go ahead and add Witch-Hunt to the links in my OP.

I'm not sure how Witch-Hunt feels about this, though. Would they support selling their patch to a company? And what if the PS3 version's dialogue differs from the original in some spots?

You would have to ask them that yourself, but they've said they have no plans to translate the PS3 version of the game.

Just another Umineko fan adding in that I would love to see this receive an official English release, in any form! Heck, I don't own a PS3 but I would buy one just to be able to own this game.

What would be the point in trophies with a visual novel (proper term is "sound novel" or "kinetic novel") that doesn't even have any choices? From what I understand, it's completely linear--it's literally a novel with pictures and sound. Trophies would only mark the player's progress in the game, with everyone at 100% at the game's end.

Trophies are mandatory for retail games.

Well there are games with virtually free trophies that you get just by beating the game. Of course you actually "play" those games, but trophies to show progress isn't bad--I mean it isn't our rule to demand trophies for a game anyways.

I'd rather the game be a digital download and only provide like 10 bronze trophies or something, I also just don't know if I'd pay full price for the game on Blu-Ray since it is only a novel, seems like a waste of disc space.

The game is like 50+ hours of reading though. If anything, that's why it WON'T be translated. Too much work, too little return. Mangagamer translated Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (PC version). I bet they regret doing it too. They've since announced they have no plans to work on Umineko.
