Nope. There are too many variables in using Kickstarter to fund a localization that way. It's not really a feasible approach.

The umineko manga is being officially localized in America!!!! this is a great thing for us cause it adds a lot of potential to localizing the ps3 games i wonder who the ultimate localization company will be that picks up the game first cause the series is only gonna get bigger once the manga gets out!!

Well that's cool that they're releasing the manga over here for Umineko. Since they are doing that, that's kind of an indicator I believe that they are aware there's a fan base for Umineko over here. So it does get my hopes up!

If you guys released the umineko games in America I would buy them no matter how much you guys charge for them but I doubt that sells will be very good considering the fact that there is already a patch that is getting closer and closer to the PS3 version. They even got the textboxes and everything.

According to the company that brought over Higurashi, there's basically no market for the Umineko games because the creator approved the translation patches. There's no real point to getting the PS3 version when the english version is basically available for free. With creator approval and everything (as I hear it). So... yeah.

Not that it's that big a deal for me, but this reasoning seems kinda weak. The PS3 version features a completely different art style than the PC version, and there are a lot of people (myself included) who would much rather enjoy something on their PS3 than PC, or actually don't use their PC for 'gaming' at all. And with that into account, even if there were a patch for the PS3 version, it would require either a modded console, or a console of a lower firmware. Either way, you can't play online or do anything with the PS Store or anything with the Playstation Network.

So, while the PC version is basically without a market, the PS3 one is not. Well, not for that reason anyway.

I imagine if Aksys had any intent to release Umineko, they'd be doing it solo. The staff is gaga for it, but the higher ups apparently don't see much profit potential or something.
