Welcome to the Hyperdimension Neptunia The App miniguide! This guide strives to help you in these two aspects:

1) Being able to install the app on your device

2) Explain all of the functions of the app

I would like to note that this guide was originally based off the Japanese Android version of the app* (ver. 1.06), and will now cover the US version and iDevices! With each new release of the app, the guide will be updated to reflect any major changes, so check back here frequently for new tips and ways to enjoy the app!

TABLE OF CONTENTS
I. Introduction
II. Getting Started
III. Gameplay
IV. FAQ
V. Known Issues
VI. Version History
VII. Credits

I. Introduction

I would like to say first off, I hope you find this guide useful, and would like to apologize in advance. Why you may ask? There is a possibility that you may NOT be able to install the Japanese version of this app on your Android phone. There are many variables that could prevent you from enjoying this app, but I will do the best of my ability to help you install it. I will also have a list of known devices that allows you to install the app and the ability to purchase the in-game DLC, so you can see if you can run it.

With all that said, enjoy! :mrgreen:

II. Getting Started
1. Free vs. Paid
2. Requirements
3. Glossary
4. Installing
- Android
- iPhone, iPod, and iPad

1. Free vs. Paid

With the app, there are technically two forms: one is free and the other is 'paid'. Now, the free version is essentially a 'demo' of the real app, but still holds a majority of the same functionality.

However, the 'paid' app builds upon the free version opens up more functionality and allows you to enjoy hearing the girl say more of her phrases. To get the 'paid' version, you just have to purchase one DLC from the free version in order for it to become a 'paid' app! Here is a list between both types, allowing you to determine which is the right one for you.

Free
====
- You only have Neptune to use; Can only say a few things.
- Can't increase Lily Rank.
- Can't access the 'Camera' function, but can access all the other functions.

Paid
====
- Still have access to Neptune, but depending which girl you purchase, they can be fully used.
- You can increase the Lily Rank for the girl you purchased (opening up more conversations and more phrases for the girl to say).
- You can access all the functions in the app, including 'Camera'.

2. Requirements

o OS: iOS ver 4.3 and up

o Models:
- iPad (1st gen and up, including iPad mini)

o How to check your OS ver:

- Go to the 'General' tab.
- Go to Software Update and then it will check if you have the latest version!

- Note: You can plug in your iDevice, and start up iTunes and have it check your software version as well.

o How to check your iDevice model:

- iPhones
- iPods
- iPads

o Link: Japanese Version & US Version

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Android Platforms
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

o OS: Android 2.3+ (Gingerbread and up)

o Models: A whole bunch to list.

o How to check your OS ver:
- Touch the app dock where it can bring up your list of installed apps.
- Go to 'Settings'
- Under the 'Phone' section, go to 'System Updates'
- It will check if you have the latest version for your phone.

- Alternatively, you can see what OS version you have by going to the 'About' section, then go to 'Software Information' and it will be listed there.

o Link: Japanese Version

o Download Link: Ver. 1.08

Now if you met all the requirements and models, you should be able to enjoy the app! In addition, as always, with higher end hardware, you will enjoy a smoother experience of the application.

3. Glossary

Now if your brain was fried over any of terms used thus far, this section will help alleviate those headaches! this section will be divided in three sections: General Terms, Android, and iOS.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
General Terms
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

OS
==
-The OS, or simply Operating System, is the brain of your device.

App
===
-Short for application, is the term used for programs that are installed the device. This guide covers said app.

UI
==
-The User Interface. This is when you touch the screen; it registers that as an input. So say you were to drag your finger over the screen, and Neptune is following your finger with her eyes, that is the User (you) using the Interface (Neptune).

There is another UI called GUI, which stands for Graphic User Interface. This is the clock or the Menu button that appears on the screen.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Android Terms
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Android
=======
-The name of the software and platform created by Google. With every major OS release, it gains a new name in alphabetical order, based on a dessert or sweet treat. The OS version you need to run this app is listed as Gingerbread (2.3), then comes Honeycomb (3.0), Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and currently, Jellybean (4.1).

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
iOS Terms
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

iOS
===
-The name Apple (the company, not fruit yo) gave to their mobile OS.

iTunes
======
-The software used to add music, pictures and videos to your iDevice. This can also be used to check for the latest iOS version for your device.

iDevice
======
- A shorthand name for grouping all the 'i' products, ex. iPhone, iPod, iPad.

4. Installing

- Android

Now to install the application on your Android, you will need a few things before you enjoy Neptune and Noire!

List
===
- Your Phone.
- USB cable.
- ASTRO File Manager App.
- The app itself (it will be in its format, .apk)
- A Windows (possibly Mac or Linux?) pc.
- At least ~60MB of space available on both your computer and phone.
- WinRAR or 7zip installed on your computer.

Steps
=====
1. First, start off making sure your phone is fully charged, has room for the app, and has the latest OS version.

2. When that is all done, connect your phone to your computer via the USB cable. Once it is connected, there will be a little USB icon on the notification bar on the phone, select it and it will give you an option to how you want to sync your phone. Select the 'Mount as Disk Drive' option.

Image

3. Now, on your Desktop, go to 'My Computer' and it will list the list of drives on your computer. Unzip the Nep app, and then go under your phone drive and drop the app (.apk) at the 'base' of the drive, not inside a folder or anything.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Image

4. On your phone, go to your settings, and then under the 'Personal' section, hit 'Security'. Then scroll down until you reach the 'Device Administration' section, and then check the 'Unknown Sources' bubble, allowing the app to install on your phone.

Image

- NOTE: Step 4 may differ, depending on your OS version, but the steps would be essentially the same. For a 2.3.4 OS, you go to 'Settings' then 'Applications' to view the 'Unknown Sources' option.

5. Unplug the USB drive, and then run the ASTRO app. Type in 'nepkamijigenapp' then press search at the bottom. Then go to the 'files' tab at the bottom to show the app. Select the app and then tap it, it will then ask if you would like to install it, do so, then enjoy the app!

Image

- iPhone, iPod, and iPad

Apple devices quite possibly have one of the easiest ways to install this application. I would recommend if you are on a data plan to be connected via Wi-Fi to help save yourself a chance from hitting your data cap!

List
===

- Your iPhone, iPod, or iPad.
- At least 50~60MB of free space for the app.
- 30pin to USB connector OR Lightning to USB cable (Optional) [This will depend on which model you have, please check the bottom of your device to see which one you have. Also check the 'Requirements' to help identify your model.]
- A Windows or Mac PC (possibly Linux?). (Optional) [This is required if you're installing it via Method 2]
- iTunes software. (Optional) [This is required if you're installing it via Method 2]

Steps
=====

Now there are two ways you can install this: 1) From your phone and 2) From iTunes.

Method 1
========

1. First, start off making sure your phone is fully charged, has room for the app, and has the latest iOS version.

2. Head on over to the [App Store] application.

Image

3. Type in "Neptunia" in the search bar.

Image

4. Select which version of the app you would like. (The Idea Factory one is in Japanese, including voices, while the NIS America one is in English, including voices.)

5. Select the [Install] button let it install into your device, and then enjoy the app!

Method 2
========

1. Start off with installing iTunes onto your PC and then grabbing the appropriate table for your iDevice. Ensure that your iDevice is fully charged and has the latest iOS version as well.

2. Begin with starting up the program. When it is up and running, head to either the top-right or the middle-left hand side of the program and select the 'iTunes Store'.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

3. Once that is loaded, then type in 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' into the search bar.

Spoiler:
Image

4. Finally, select which version of the app you want to be installed on your iDevice (either US or Japanese version of the app).

Spoiler:

5. Enter your Apple ID login information, then when you plugin your device, it will sync up and you will now have the app on your device!

III. Gameplay
1. Interface
2. Alarm
3. Schedule
4. Camera
5. Character
6. Store
7. Others

1. Interface

ANDROID
Image

iOS

Image

Now let us start talking about the interface!

Controls
=======

Now this whole app is going to be touch based, so essentially just drag your finger, stylus, etc. over the screen, and the girl will follow your movement path with her eyes and watch you. That is it!

- Touch ------------ Your main function, touching the screen has the girl follow your movements. For the iOS version, you must touch the 'Touch' bubble.
- Pinch in --------- Zooms out on the girl (only happens if you are zoomed in)
- Pinch out -------- Zooms in on the girl.
- Shake ------------ If you shake your device, the girl will get dizzy! (Hard to pull off at times)
- Tilt --------------- If you tilt your device either forward or backwards, the girl will say something along the lines of you looking at her panties!

Menu
====

In the bottom-left hand side of the screen is the 'Menu' button. Touching it expands/retracts the sub menu, allowing you to select the function you would like to use. It is important to note that the [Camera] function will be grayed out (aka unusable) until you purchase one of the girls.

Lily Rank
========

In the top-left hand of the screen is the girl's Lily Rank, which is essentially her affection level towards you. The heart starts out empty, but will increase in rank every 3 days of consistent runs of the app -for a total of 5 days (The 3rd day counts as both the first rank up and a day towards the next rank). There are three different levels of affection: 1, 2, and 3, with 3 being the highest level. With each level increase brings more phrases that the girl will say, along with her blushing a lot more.

There is one important thing to note that it IS possible to lose a Lily Rank. If you ignore the girl for a full day, her Lily Rank will drop one full level! Therefore, it is very important to keep her happy and just turn on the app to prevent a Lily Rank drop.

Lily Rank 1 Image
------------

- The girl will talk, she will not do much

Lily Rank 2 Image
-------------

- The girl will be more excited to see you, and blush if you 'talk' to her.

Lily Rank 3 Image
-------------

- The girl is pretty much in love with you, will blush and be very energetic.

Clock
====

The clock in the top-right hand corner will show the following things, going from left to right, top to bottom:

- Yellow Arrow: The arrow on the left hand side of this border will allow you to hide this information by simply touching it. You can expand the bar again by pressing the same yellow arrow.

- Alarm: This is symbolized as a little bell. If it is crossed out, it means the alarm is turned off, if it is on, it will glow yellow.

- Battery: This will show your battery life. The more bars in the battery icon means you have a high battery life and vice versa for low battery.

- 24h: This clock tells the time in military time (00:00 to 23:59). You cannot change this option. So if you are not good with military time, just know 00:00 is midnight, 12:00 is noon and 17:00 is 5 P.M. (So just subtract the number from noon to get your appropriate P.M. time [17-12 = 5]).

2. Alarm

Spoiler:
Image

The alarm function allows you to have the girl wake you up!

Alarm
=====

Allows you to set the time, the left side adjusts the hours, while the right side adjusts the minutes.

Snooze
======

Allows you to adjust the snooze time delay. For example, if you set it to be 20, then between each alarm trigger, there will be a 20-minute gap until the next time for the alarm to go off.

3. Schedule

This will display your schedule, with all dates and times. Nifty if you want to see everything that is planned out in one convenient place.

4. Camera

The camera function allows you to take a picture with the girl, or insert the girl in a picture that has already been taken.

Take Picture With
===============

The top option allows you to snap a photo with the girl! She will always be on the right hand side, and you can zoom in on her, and move her around -- It's hard to pull the later option off. You must have two fingers on the screen and slide them in order to move the girl. The center bottom on the bottom will take the picture, 'Cancel' button cancels the photo, and the 'Help' button gives you some info of the options.

If your hardware has a front facing camera, then you can take a picture while being able to see the photo! To do this, go to the top-right hand side, and there will be a little circle, with arrows rotating around it and touch that for it to switch cameras! If your hardware does not have the front facing camera, then it will be disabled.

Insert Photo
==========

The bottom option will allow to insert the girl you have into any photo you currently have. Use the same functions as taking a picture to make the girl bigger/smaller and move her around.

5. Character

Spoiler:
Image

This function will show you the current Lily Rank standing with the girls, and you can change between either of them by pressing their name to the side of them. If you buy any additional costumes, this is where you will be able to change the girl's outfit.

6. Store

The store function allows you to buy either of girls to allow you to increase their Lily Rank, some new costumes, and even new voice tracks allowing them to say new phrases! For the voice sets, the date is listed as MM/DD. Here's a current list of all the DLC items:

7. Others

Spoiler:
Image

The others function will allow you to set your birthday, sign into your twitter account, or reset everything. The main thing about this function is the birthday section, as if you have a high enough Lily Rank; the girl will give you a present on your birthday! Unfortunately, nothing visible.

Birthday
=======

As mentioned, this function allows you to set your birthday. The left option is for the month, and the right option is for the day. Unfortunately, you do not getting 'anything' on your birthday, but imagine you got a cake, but you do get a nice message!

Twitter
======

When you select this option, you will notice it will be a blank screen but a small little 'Log In' bar in the top-right hand side. If you click it, you will be brought into a screen allowing you to link your account to this app and then use this app to view all your tweets!

Reset
=====
As the name implies, this will reset all of your Lily Rankings for the girls and start fresh. This option is useless, so ignore this option unless you really want to reset your data.

Website
=======

This will take you to the main website for the game... You can get some wallpapers if you would like or twitter icons!

Twitter Follower

IV. FAQ

This section will cover all pertaining questions regarding the app. If your question is not answered here, or in this mini guide, feel free to post on the NISA forums or send me a message so I can do my best to assist you.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Installing
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

[Q]: I have tried your methods here and nothings working! Is there a way to still install the app?

[A]: Unfortunately, there is a strong possibility that you will not be able to if none of the methods listed worked. I will still do my best to help you get it installed. This will primarily apply to Android devices only.

[Q]: (Android) Why is the app running so slow? Is there a way to speed it up?

[A]: If all possible, try to send the app data to an SD card (preferably one with a high class speed) to help alleviate this. The steps bellow will tell you how to send it to an SD card from within your phone.

1. Go under [Settings] and then go to [Apps].
2. Under the [Downloaded] tab, scroll down until you reach the Neptunia app.
3. Touch the app, and it will bring up information on it. It will list options like 'Force Stop', 'Disable', and even 'Uninstall'. Move down until you see the [Move] button and select that.
4. It will ask if you would like to move it from the phone's storage to the SD card, do so and it should make a performance difference!

Finally, be sure to stop any running apps you're not using and run a task manager to help clear up RAM space to ensure the app runs smoothly.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Purchasing
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

[Q]: (Android) How come I cannot buy any of the DLC items?

[A]: Due to the nature of this app, there is a strong possibility you cannot even buy any of the DLC items. Try one of the following options listed below to see if any of these methods work for you. Again, this answer is quite dynamic as it has many variables such as your phone, carrier, and method of purchasing.

- Debit/Credit card
- Google Play Store card
- Select the 'Bill my ______ account', where the blank is your provider
- Google Wallet account (sometimes works if you are using your normal payment card does not work.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Localization
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

[Q]: Is this app coming stateside?

[A]: Currently, NISA has released iOS version of the app, and might possibly bring over the Android version. Therefore, if you want to have this app on your phone, your only options are: 1) Wait for the English version to be localized or 2) dealing with the Japanese version only.

V. Known Issues

A whole section dedicated of issues pertaining to this app.

iOS Devices
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

- There seems to be an issue regarding the girls not being able to be quiet when using the alarm function on an iPod touch. Further information will be gathered to help diagnose which model is the cause of this.

For Alarm, I believe the "???" is the setting for how many minutes will pass before it goes off again should you not turn off the alarm.

EDIT: I just tested my theory and it is correct. I know from experience that when it's set to 1, there is a 1 minute gap between alarms when I don't press the OK button to turn off the alarm, and I just set an alarm with that function set to two and there was a 2 minute gap between alarms when I didn't shut off the alarm. It's kinda like an automatic snooze button, which is useful because the actual alarm sound doesn't last all that long unlike most other alarms.

Also, I've observed that at least in the iOS version, if you want to use this without anyone randomly talking, do not buy a character, otherwise, they will talk about every minute or so, which ruins the app (for that character) if you want to use it as, say, a morning alarm as there is currently no way to shut this off and exiting the app with the alarm set doesn't work for everyone (one person says he got it to play sound that way, but I couldn't). This, of course, means that if you want to use the app for its practical purpose, then you'll be limited to Neptune.

This, of course, means that if you want to use the app for its practical purpose, then you'll be limited to Neptune.

Thanks Wdog! I appreciate your test and help! I also tested your information regarding the snooze function with Neptune yapping on the Android version, and unfortunately, it looks like it applies to both platforms. :lol: Hopefully there will be an update to correct this.

@Daverost & SpeedPunk

Thanks as well!

What also pisses me off is:

1. The support is in Japanese, so I can't express my concern.

2. This wouldn't be hard to implement at all. Just add a button that shuts their automatic talking off and the problem is solved.

Also, as for the iOS version, you can just go into the App Store (Japan and USA confirmed so far) and search for Neptunia. It'll be the only app available. I did it before this was possible, which consisted of putting Idea Factory in the search bar. As for buying things in the iOS version, it can be done from any account, so loading up on Japanese iTunes cards isn't necessary.

Oh, and you may want to add that random talking thing to the features of the paid version so that people like me who want to use the alarm function don't end up gypped. Even though you added it to the "Known Issues" section, this is quite a serious issue since it could mean that someone just spent $6 for nothing (or almost nothing depending on the case), so making it as obvious as possible is recommended.

I fully agree with you on that aspect, I would hate for anyone to be screwed over, especially if they drop $6 on a character. I added the issue to the [known issues] section, before I saw your new post. I did add in a warning in red text (just recently) to give an even bigger indication of what to expect for those that who have not bought any characters yet.

Thanks again for the info regarding the iOS installation method! I ended up using my sister's iPhone 4S 16GB (took up 47.3MB), and as you said, it was as simple as typing 'Neptunia' into the app store. Hell, even the damn description was in both English and Japanese! However, I also noticed it had a slightly different UI compared to the Android one, so I will be adding the pictures and info tomorrow regarding all of that stuff. I do have one question though; do you happen to know what 'Restore' button does at the bottom of the page in the [Store] tab? I am assuming that if you delete the app, it will allow you to re-download all the DLC items without having to buy everything again.

The Restore button simply allows you to download all of your DLC again without having to buy it again in the event that your iPod gets wiped or you get a new iPod/iPhone.
