Yuri means lily. Is this true in the Japanese Version?

Postby Memor-X » Wed Jul 23, 2014 9:36 pm

In Mk. II you have the Lily system where a character's Lily Rank is their affection Level. The other day i just remember Wikipedia saying the word yuri (百合) literally means "lily" and i heard in V the Lily System had been upgraded to where characters could be married if they had a high enough Lily Rank (just what i heard, haven't played it yet to confirm)

with the last comment aside, a system called Lily which ranks = affection and all the characters are female, and yuri means lily, i am wondering, in the japanese version was Yuri used instead of Lily?
Vivio: Yay, Feito-mama and Nanoha-mana made love, properly too this time
Nanoha: Vivio dear, what gives you that idea
Vivio: Aunty Hayate said you'd yell out like when i yell out replying "I'm Coming!" to you
Nanoha: Ha-ya-TEEEE!

The second part is most certainly false. Regarding Yuri/Lily, well, the website for U uses Lily in the game text. It of course means the same thing, though.

The game does really nothing about the lily rank. It lets the players decide for themselves if it's something more or nothing. And as already pointed out, it's called "lily" in the Japanese version.

It's just called Lily in the Japanese version. Nothing to special about it other than some subtext pandering.

So whatever it might mean is left up to you. But it's not definitively defined in anyway other than being a power up and having some Yuri hints to it.
This is what Ben Carson will do to political correctness. I approve.

"Lily" is a common moniker in Japan to refer to girls love. Does it always mean that? Of course not, but that is definitely a way it can be used (it's basically slang). 百合 is a word that means "lily", but it's also become a more accepted way to denote GL (Girls Love. Which would basically be called lesbianism by English speakers). Sounds the same as "lily" I know, but there are differences in how it's used. GL = The most straight up way, that isn't ambiguous in what it can mean (as far as I know anyway).

As for this game, they purposefully went with something like that as a sort of joke thing. And a "Maybe it is, maybe it isn't" thing. You could replace it with "friendship" and I doubt it'd mean anything else. It's a game mechanic really, and nothing else (though U might change that up a bit)

The marriage thing is a 100% lie.

Considering this question has been thoroughly answered, shouldn't it be merged to the general thread? I don't really see any new conversation picking up, and general questions don't really warrant a topic of their own.

Except then it wouldn't be able to be found again?
What are threads for if not asking oddly specific questions?

The board does have a search function that can find anything posted in any thread. I use it a lot.

If only it was as simple as that.
An internet search engine isn't very likely to pull a specific page of a thread however, so there's that to consider.
It's not really doing any harm. Though this discussion possibly is.

I mean the search function below the thread title. You can use it in specific threads, sub-forums or really anywhere on any page. You can even search search-results.

The question's been answered. Though, it might be interesting to have a thread on serious discussion on the yuri (rather lack therof) of the Nep series. Anyway, locked.
