I know right. Even one of the antagonists refers to the protagonists in M2K as moe blobs.

Are talking about the original or the alternate universe one?

I first found out about it on Gamespot and I was like "OMG an all female rpg thank god someone came up with this idea."

A lot of neat stories and such. I'm anticipating to know more on how you guys discovered this game(s). :)

Yet, I'm still contemplating about my conundrum here. This is like some seriously bad writer's block... :?

Saw it on Sankaku announcing it as a lolicon game and stating it possibly being one of the worse games/jrpgs released (at the time). This is for the first game.

Bought it regardless as a lack of Anime graphic games on the PS3 in NA. First reaction? It wasn't all that great. The cut-scenes and dialogues were fun but the battle system and dungeon roaming system was horrendous. Finished story mode once and never went back to playing it. After about 10~20minute (after the 20~30minute intro), I ended up skipping everything battle-wise because there was no reason to watch the attacks as it'd waste guard break time, lol@logic. Also took me like 5 minutes to figure out how to actually skip attack animations as the button that says "Skip" wasn't even the correct one.

As for MK2, I also saw it's announcement on Sankaku/Kotaku. Pre-ordered it with its positively good reviews (based on the Japanese version compared to the first game) and when I played it... it was so much better, SO MUCH FREAKING BETTER, actually played my entire first round without skipping anything battle wise and even bothered to platinum it.

I should go back to the first game and platinum it but I personally don't even want to touch it. The only thing related to the first game I even touch these days is the art book.

My first reaction to seeing Neptunia for the first time - "Meh. Sexy looking girls though."

Then almost a year later, since the game's release for the localized version, I decided to buy the limited edition off of Amazon. Worth it.

My first reaction after playing Neptunia for the first time - "Amazing."

Shortly after playing the game, I decided to support both import and localized version for limited editions of Neptunia. Gotta collect those art books, OST, and nendoroids, or whatever other merchandise they intend to offer.

The first time I heard about the game was on gametrailers when I saw videos of it. Once I saw all the videos that had to do with HDN, the only thing that went through my mind was I must get this game no matter what! I put down money for the premium edition, and I'm glad I did, I instantly fell in love with the game.

Well, I only bought this game last week, so I can give my genuine first impression without the need of hindsight!

Um, well, honestly my first impression isn't great so far. The premise is humorous, and I like that much, but apart from that the dialogue feels really juvenile and the combat is really nothing special - which isn't good for such a grind heavy game. The dialogue feels like a really kiddy attempt at Disgaea-type humour with a pandering to yuri tension that comes through a bit too strong and simple.

I've been flicking through pages of this forum trying to find an answer to my burning questions, "What's so amazing about this game?" But the only solid answer I can find is cute character designs, and though yeah, I agree with that, I really need a lot more than that to enjoy a game.

I'm only a couple hours in, Nisa has just joined my party, so this really is a first impression. I'm not condemning it yet (Hell, I hated Ar Tonelico 2 when I first started it and now it's my favourite JRPG) - but I'm dubious so far.

Someone, give me a reason to want to keep playing this! There has to be a reason it's so popular!

EDIT- I should specify I'm playing mk2, due to recommendation I skipped the original altogether.

I have only played Mk2 as well. I got the game like 2-3 weeks ago, and I can't be happier with what I have found!

My first reaction was "What is this game that ALL these people on NISA forums are playing & talking about?"

My second reaction was to check out youtube/gameplay of Neptunia.

The third reaction is history. :D

Sadly, I missed out as well. According to the NISA store, they don't stock it anymore. Only other place i can find it, is alot of expensive copies on Ebay. Anyone got a cheap way to get it that I cannot seem to find?

If you are extremely lucky (and that is emphasized for a reason), you can find new copies of the first game at GameStop. I got my copy there for about $30, but it was the only copy they had left. That came to my utter surprise when I found it there...

Other than that, you'll have to pay a premium price online to even get it used... :|

Well... It's a strange story really. I was bored and I had literally NO GAMES for my PS3 even though I had owned it for two years already. I thought to myself, "Geez, I really should use this thing for something other than being a blu-ray dvd player." But, I like anime style plot lines and there was nothing really interesting like that in the USA for the PS3 so it seemed pretty hopeless for me. Then, I found the first Neptunia on youtube. I was immediately fascinated by the Final Fantasy styled battle system and the anime designs for characters. I watched someone play on Youtube for awhile and finally went, "Dang I want this game. It's hilarious and the characters are cool." So thus, I got it at Gamestop later that week. I immediately went to playing and found myself enjoying it even more than I had imagined. I don't really know why. I'm typically not the ecchi kinda guy and the plot I could see was somewhat simplistic. I've never been one to care much about graphics so to me that was irrelevant. I could see the gameplay could improve but that's what left me wanting a sequel.

So I guess to answer the question: I don't really know why myself but I found myself interested by the game series and after having played it came to love the fictional world the game created and all of the awesome people who live within it. (Though technically in Neptunia V there will be two worlds xD)
