Novel Publishing (SAO!)

Postby Rednal » Mon Jul 16, 2012 8:23 am

About three weeks ago, a release was posted detailing commentary by President Niikawa about the corporate philosophy of NIS and NISA. Specifically, President Niikawa mentioned that NIS intends to provide many forms of media, including novels... and that NISA would be looking to provide all of them, too.

I think this is absolutely wonderful, and so I have two bits of feedback.

1) Fans know a lot of works that NIS/NISA may not have paid attention to, so I think it would be a good idea to open up the 'Game Request' forum to other forms of media as well; if NISA intends to publish things besides games and anime (as President Niikawa's comments suggested was the case), I think it would help a lot to see what the fans are most interested in. Thus, let us make suggestions. If nothing else, you'll get a good sense of what sorts of series we're really interested in, and knowing your audience is important, right?

2) In addition, I think all NISA-published novels should be quality works. That's why I would like to highly, highly encourage looking at publishing the "Sword Art Online" Light Novel series. Written by Kunori Fumio (pen name), this series is regarded very highly in Japan (and around the world). It's also just started an animated adaption (NISA should try to get that, too, by the way), which I think would be the best way to be introduced to the story. Plain and simply, though, this series is good. Light Novels can be fairly hit-or-miss in terms of quality, but SAO says consistently good throughout. Would you at least be willing to consider it?

If NISA does novels, they should do them for titles they already have first.

Disgaea and Toradora, of course.

You people must really hate the original trio if you actually want those shitty novels.

There's character development... and then there's character derailment and those novels take those characters we all know and love and fucking butcher their personalities to match the author's bumbling fanfic-level prose.

No offense to fanfic writers out there. Most of you do a better job than the fucking morons hired to do Disgaea novels.

They can't possibly be worse than the abomination that was the anime.

Never, ever say that :X The universe will find a way to prove you wrong. The last time I said something like that out loud was "The dorm caf can't possibly mess up chicken patties." The result... was unpleasant :(

I never have, nor had I seen anyone say so before today, so ha.
That doesn't meant I am saying they haven't, I've just never seen anyone say it is all.

No. Atleast they got the characters right. And were funny.

The piece of fuck novels couldn't even do that right.

I understand that you may have a low opinion of certain works... but I don't think that language is appropriate for a board that children may well be visiting. ^^; Also, this thread is meant to be about what NISA should publish, not to complain about other things they've published in the past... please try to stay on topic and avoid derailing this with a bunch of swearing and complaining.

A wise post.

Zeke, you seriously need to tone it down.

I... liked the Disgaea anime >.>

I'm also quite enjoying the SOA anime.

I don't really care what's in the SOA novels, I'm judging the anime by it's own merit.

On this particular topic though: It'd be cool if they brought the novels over. I wouldn't particularly read them but it'd be neat to see NISA publishing something like that.

Also mmmmmmmmmmmanga.I think could NISA could do a neat experiment where they only sold a published manga and novels online, and don't have the problem of people going into book stores, reading it there, stealing it, or not buying it.
