I'm guessing that this doesn't automatically mean that a release within this year should be expected, hopefully i'm wrong. I actually forgot about this game until now.

They've begun to release the Backer Beta thing on Steam. That tells me this game is still a long ways off. I'm starting to think Wayforward has taken Blizzard's Playbook and run with it. The game was originally supposed to be released TWO OCTOBERS ago. They should have just said "It'll be released when it's ready"...
The Kickstarter only ended two Octobers ago. In no world would it have been ready to release at that time and I can't imagine they or anyone else thought it would.

Do you mean Pirate's Curse? That's been out for a while if so.

Nope, I meant Half-Genie Hero. And I said that because I distinctly remember them saying that the game was originally planned for release in October of 20... 14? Ok, one October. Time sort of stopped existing for me for a while during the Winter of the Witches, so maybe I lost track of the original release date...

At any rate, I donated to the Kickstarter too. Just enough to essentially pre-order an X-Box 360 Arcade copy. I wonder if they still plan on releasing it for that console now that it's nearing the end of its run? It'll be something of an echo of when the original Shantae was released at the end of the Game Boy Color's run.

Since its at beta now would this mean it would be out in late winter/early spring next year?

I backed at (well, higher than actually) the beta tier, so I got to mess around with it. If anyone wants screencaps of it I'll link some. :) Though granted there're prolly already playthrough vids on YT of it, so it'd prolly be kinda redundant for me to do that.

That said, the game is damned pretty, it's got nice tunes, etc. I had fun with the beta and I can't wait for the final game~

Well, the game is finally almost here. It was originally going to be released September 27th, but has been delayed again six weeks to October something. Also of negative note, the game is no longer planned to be released for the X-Box 360 or PlayStation 3. This affects me, because when I pledged enough to just get the game, I selected the 360 version (this was way back when that was the only console of the current generations I had). I would have opted to change to PS3, but, well, that's no-go too.

I've sent off an email to their support team to ask for help regarding this. If they present the option, I'll change it to the Wii-U, since I'll have one of them by the end of this year.

Based on their update, they should be willing to help you out somehow. ^^

So after a bit of back-and-forth through email with WayForward Support, I have had my version I will receive be changed to the Wii-U version. I am perfectly fine with this. In fact, it seems "appropriate" to have the game on a Nintendo console, since all the rest have been for one.

I don't have a Wii-U, but I will soon. It will be good to have that as one of my first games for the unit, along with Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and hopefully EarthBound.

So everything's good to go. 8-)

Rollin' rollin' rollin'... Rollin' back the release date...

I think it's December 12th, now? At least according to the GameFAQs Release Data for the Wii-U version.

WayForward's not exactly keen on communication.

And now, at long last, the game has an official (digital) release date: December 20th. ... ts/1756646

Doesn't give me much time to play it before I plan to buy Hyrule Warriors near the 1st of January, but whatever. At last, I'll get to see Risky Boots in action again!

I couldn't find a thread on this and only saw shuttle paris transfer one post talking about it in a Vita thread and wanted to give this a little bit more visibility here since I know this type of game is right up a lot of people on this forums alley.

Way forward is doing is a Kickstarter for game in the Shantae series, and it looks kind of awesome. This is actually the first Kickstarter I've seen that has gotten me to make an account to put money towards something.

hello, i relly want to play to theis game but i don't know how to download it and the link i found was fake.

Wa-hey! I just got the download code for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero for my Wii-U! Downloaded, installed, and ret-2-go! :D

I've been needing a break from Monster Hunter. So it looks like tomorrow I'll be starting the game. :)

...Aaand, I'm done. I have beaten the game in an all-day sitting playthrough. Cleared it at 100% in just under 8 hours.

I have a verdict and a bit of a review. The long version contains Gigantic Spoilers. Don't look if you don't want to be spoiled.

My verdict? It gets a 3.5/5. It has gorgeous graphics, very colorful, and the controls are smooth. But, the music was just a bit weak. It didn't have the environmental feel that Pirate's Curse had.

The game, in general, feels... stunted. It feels like it's severely lacking in content. The plot's generic, with Risky Boots having returned to being a standard-issue world-domination megalomaniac. None of the character-building that was present in Pirate's Curse...

There aren't very many locations to visit, and the places you do go to felt really short... There's also a surprising lack of enemy variety (though the new enemies provided by the backers were pretty neat). Some of my favorites (such as the MuckPeople, WetPeople and ScorpPeople) don't even appear at all. Plenty of collectables though.

I do like how they reused certain material from previous games though. All the Barons return to pester you, and Risky, in the final battle, uses some of the gear you got to play with in Pirate's Curse to attack you. It's really entertaining to see that. The way the very first game starts and ends is recycled into this game in a very effective way too. But then, there was some new material (such as Holly) that barely got any good use. That was the kind of stuff that could have been stretched out over multiple missions.

On another note, which is something I consider a pro, but I'm sure more hardcore gamers would consider a MASSIVE con: the game's easy. You have infinite lives, money is so abundant you can buy all of the attack and defense upgrades before even reaching the third realm, and once you collect all of the Gallery Keys, you're awarded with an item that gives you unlimited magical energy, and since the items you get to use are devastating to the enemies (one tears apart enemies that get close, one is a beam of heavy damage you can aim ANYWHERE, one renders you COMPLETELY INVULNERABLE), it is possible to stride through the final mission with relative ease. I had to deliberately not use some of these things just to keep it from being so easy.

The short version is: I feel it was not as good as Pirate's Curse.

However, it looks like Risky Mode is going to be DLC (or an update item), as right now it's marked as "Coming Soon". THAT, is what I'm truly waiting for. I hope that plays out well.

So! Three years of waiting! For this... *shrug* It was fun, at least.

Yeah, the game was ok. It looked great and had a top-notch OST, but everything else felt mediocre. Even the bosses were way too bland... :/

Just blew through the Pirate Queen's Quest add-on for Half-Genie Hero. Gonna post here exactly what I said in what is currently the only post on the Wii-U version's board on GameFAQs.

Title: [Probable Spoilers] - Waited almost a year, beaten in less than a day.

Title says a lot off the start.

To put it simply, I'm slightly disappointed. Really, I expected more than this.

Highs: Getting to play as Risky Boots (obviously).
I love Risky Boots. I really do. She's in my collection of "S-Rank Women" that I make extensive use of in my story works. But with the series reboot, she suffered such severe regression in personality, being reduced back to a 2-dimensional megalomaniacal supervillain. She lost her flirty, sultry personality, which fit her so well and made her as unique as she was. As far as I'm concerned, The Pirate's Curse Risky was the best.
Other Highs: Return of ScorpGal and BatGal. Nice to see them again. Now if they'd just restore the MuckPeople and WetGal...

Lows: Simply re-playing all of the original stages. I seriously expected new stages when they said it was a new story. Not a replay of the old stages all the way down to re-fighting the same bosses...
And, of course, the simple fact that it took me just a little over 3 hours to beat at 100%.

I get that this is just an add-on, but still, I really expected more...

The game's graphics are probably its only high points. The music's ordinary, the plots are thin, and I DO NOT like the way they made this game so dang family-friendly by erasing almost all traces of the finely-played sensuality it had become known for. The decision utterly reeks of executive meddling...

The series reached its peak with The Pirate's Curse. Half-Genie Hero remains a dud with its severe regression in so many areas. If the Hero Mode add-ons to play as Bolo, Sky and Rotty are free, I'll get and play them, but if they have to be paid for, I'll probably let them pass. From the looks of it, the Shantae series has passed its prime. It's sad to see...
