Well, the ending was being changed right up until the eleventh hour, so I doubt anything was very well planned and it certainly feels like it, as it's just sort of stitched onto the end of the game badly.

I just finished the game last night. I really do not see what is so terrible about the ending that everyone is complaining. Is it the best ending ever - no. Is it the worst ending ever - no.

Spoiler:
It's a deus ex machina in series which never pulls them, at least not without adequate explanation, and feels incredibly tacked on, and more or less discounts any of your previous decisions, with the galactic readiness only having minor effects and make no sense as to why.
They've also gone on record as saying 'it won't have an A, B or C, ending' when that's precisely what it has, and they've said that fairly close to the game's release so they knew it was ending that way, so there's no excuse for that.

It makes perfect sense to me. I mean, we devoted over a 100 hours of our lives in this masterpiece of a sci-fi trilogy, we fell in love with the characters, with the squad mates (Tali~<3), the aliens, the entire world of Mass Effect. And we became Commander Shepard. Only to see it conclude without any closure of any sorts with such a "tacked on" ending?

Yea, but I would like to think that the ending to this awesome trilogy wasn't complete garbage.
A
Spoiler:
nd it kinda makes sense. I mean, the goal through the entire game, to destroy the Reapers, was labeled in 'Renagade' colors, the one option where Shepard showed he had faith in the future of the galaxy. There has to be reason for that. Plus, if the Galaxy Readiness is high enough, and you choose to destroy the reapers, it's revealed that Shepard survived. How did that happen, when the Citadel was shown to be destroyed?

It's mostly due to the fact that the writing is so good up until that point means the bad ending sticks all the more. The inconsistency is very jarring. Not to mention lying to your fans, not a good idea.
I mean there's a lot of people overreacting horrendously to this, but there's probably far more who are more rational about it.

Incidentally, Bioware have opened the can of worms, for better or worse, that is by saying they'll alter the ending somehow.

This gives a clearer view of what they're actually doing.
Basically, not undoing the stupid, just giving some closure.
Which is a shame, as I don't care what they artistically think of that ending, it's just stupid and it could be retained without it being so, just such a failure at being anything.
In fact, someone managed to work the existing thing into a far better ending, so it could be done.

I don't really want to say anything about the extended cut as it's not what the ending needs.

I don't know what to think. i guess the Indoctrination Theory was false in the end. Which is a shame really, seeing as that, and the ending provided just now made more sense then the ending Bioware had come up with. But a bit of closure won't hurt... so I guess I'll cautiously be optimistic about it.
but still, this isn't what Marauder Shields fought for...

The theory was nice and all, but seeing how badly the writing goes off the rails at the end, it seemed to be assuming much more forethought than was displayed. Not to mention how the ending was being changed right up until release.

What I find funny is that most people who say "stop complaining" always state they never played the game or have no interest in the game.~

And I say....really? people who have not played the game are passing judgment haha funny.

My 2 cent on the ending tho: Yeah the ending was horrible the game deserved so much more...while I hated the ending to the max I won't go rage about it like some people on the internet have~

As for the DLC I doubt it can change the damage that has already been done... all we can do is move on sadly~
