I was under the impression that this game was a SRPG with battles similar to Fire Emblem. After viewing the screens in the link I'm not so sure.

And what exactly are you inferring from the screenshots? Note I've never played a Fire Emblem game. I don't know any game, mainstream or not, that has a system similar to Aselia's (other than its sequel).

Check the gameplay video in the OP. That should provide a better idea of how the gameplay works. Note that the battle cutscenes are completely non-interactive. The results are predetermined by character stats, assigned skills, and the chosen formation.

Make no mistake, Eien no Aselia is a VN with SRPG elements. But I beg you to try it if you have little or no experience with VNs. Last, if you're one of those rpg fans who think story matters most, not being interested in VNs is just wrong on so many levels.

Except the majority of them are dating Sims/Harems. And for some reason I just can't get into those that much anymore.

There are plenty that are not too though. I didn't say you have to be interested in EVERY VN.

Aselia is definitely not the dating-sim type of VN... The only similarity is that there is a different ending path for each of the heroines, and that is something that is starting to show up in normal jrpgs, so its no big deal. The story in this game is really well-written and the scenario is engrossing. Give it a try, plot-lovers...

Huh. If you played the fan translation then you should know what it's like. I'm confused.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is pretty much exactly the fan translated version. IT's more for people who haven't played it yet, who don't want to go thru the trouble of hunting a Japanese version, patching it up with Japanese patches, dling the translation, etc.

$30? Steep?! I can tell you're new to buying Visual Novels, that's for sure

I picked it up for the sole purpose of giving my support to the devs, and I must say that it looks great next to my PS2 copy

Thirty bucks isn't high at all for this quality of a game... if it were released in the US on console, you would have paid sixty-five without even thinking about it, after all.

Standard price for console games are $60, they never charge more than that (except when they bundle other items). Just saying, although I agree with you on that, Clephas.
