Dragon's Dogma (PS3/360)

A place for everybody to talk about anything game-related.

@Pawn system: I know Icewind Dale had this. And Baldur's Gate if you create a multi-player game and stock your own characters. While neither had adaptive A.I., none of that is new.

Can't think of any other games that let you climb monsters in the way that Dragon's Dogma does.

I really wish the demo actually represented the game well. I would have liked some marginal open-world exploration. If anything were to overcome the graphical issues I have, it would have been that.

Original stuff? Hmm, how about tossing your allies at the enemy? Lmao, that cracked me up when I was trying to figure out how to my pawn launch me to the griffin, but grabbed her instead and chucked her into a boulder.

How did I miss this thread? I'm so pumped for this game.

I'm assuming the majority of us here are getting this on ps3?

Yeah, but you still really controlled them directly (AI scripts aside), and they didn't the strange online sharing system (which is almost like Spore like that) Dragon's Dogma has, which is the truly new part.
Not to mention you only get to create and manage two members of your party, the other two are effectively pre-set characters.

Hence the title.

But you could—and many people did—share them. I might not have been integrated, but you know how little that affects a PC game. I can't really comment on whether or not the lack of control is a good thing on the demo alone. Personally, I prefer to control an entire party, but that doesn't mean party systems can't or haven't worked.

And this isn't me trying to say, "Oh, Dragon's Dogma isn't innovative." It might not be. It probably isn't. It's probably as 'innovative' as Halo was by pulling together elements already well-established in other games. But a game doesn't need to be innovative to be enjoyable. I'm simply discussing (and sometimes rebutting) the things that aren't really an innovation.

Yeah, I'm sure that most of us are...I know I am

@DarkAdonis - My character never actually got launched by my pawn, I was disappointed to know that you could, but mine was just too lazy to toss me up :P Though throwing your pawn at a boulder? Priceless.

Well, it's integrated into the game in a way so that it's a key gameplay aspect to share characters with people, as otherwise you could almost do that with any game. It's just that rewards for doing so are written into the game itself, so it's definitely a major feature, rather than just 'something you can do which is neat'.

Yeah, that's why I like the system...it allows you to not only take the pawns to help you, but you can give said pawns gifs to send back to the owner of said pawn as well heh

I wouldn't classify that as a major feature, personally. That's not to say I dislike it, but if that's a major feature, the game must not have much going for it. xD
