Namco is going to release Ni No Kuni after the same amount of time that they're going to release Tales of Graces F over here. 1 year and a couple of months.

Seems like that's gonna be their norm for JRPGs from now on, or it's only the case because of SCV, Naruto, and Tekken releasing so close to each other...

Oliver will fight and befriend creatures in this other world and Drippy is one of the first buddies he makes. If you’ve been following Ni no Kuni’s development you may know him by his Japanese name, Shizuku.

Yep, that's almost me.

Personally I think they should have left the names alone. Especially Hotroit. "Motorville" sounds plain and less funny.

Remember that the chances of this game being marketed towards all age groups is pretty high, meaning it would be easier to change the names to be easier to understand by ALL age groups

Plus, I wouldn't have known that the names were changed if you didn't mention anything, so the same will be true for others

I wonder if they'll have two scripts; one localized and one not localized. Then again, that never happens but with them changing names like that...

I doubt it, little point to it. So far, the only game I've seen that happen is with an eroge called Katahane. The fantranslator made two different translation patches: A "Natural" translation patch for those who prefer a more localized translation (no honorifics, some jokes or cultural things changed) and a "Literal" translation patch for those who prefer a more literal translation (honorifics and everything else retained).

With Innocence, they did 'Romaji', 'literal', and 'localized'.

It's kinda sad that they're doing this sort of stuff already. I just don't get why these companies incorporate such an ethnocentric view...

I know, right? Motorville sounds something from a Disney movie.

Oh.

So, have you tried all three translation patches? What are the main differences between them?

Romaji is just that, Romaji the way it's spoken in Japanese, honorifics and all. Literal is where you get some odd words, but it's more true to the Japanese. Localized uses names like 'Demon Fang', and "Apple Gels", like how we're used to. I found Literal to be the strangest of the three.
