Only the third Ar Tonelico is real-time, isn't it?

Hrm...the second was sorta active time, but definitely not real-time.

One more thing that I really love about the Growlanser games is that they have the traditonal exploring towns & talking to NPCs aspects which seems to be absent from a lot of modern tactical / SRPGs (whatever genre we'll agree to disagree that Growlanser may or may not be). That element is pretty essential to my enjoyment of a RPG .

if by absent you mean in alot then sure........

Well, sure, it's still in a lot of games, but it is not in that many tactics / SRPG games specifically. For instance, Fire Emblem (at least the one I've played) doesn't have it. Even FF XIII did away with towns (at least I've heard it did, haven't played it and probably won't).

do you realize most tactics/srpgs NEVER had it...........

fire emblem is basically the oldest srpg series ever, and it never had it........

disgaea never had it, agarest never had it, ff tactics never had it, ect

" Even FF XIII did away with towns (at least I've heard it did, haven't played it and probably won't)."

and 13-2 brought it back

Right well that's exactly my point and the reason why I don't really care for most tactics / srpgs. It sort of feels like half the game is missing to me.

I haven't played a fighting game since the 32-bit era and haven't really enjoyed a fighting game since the 16-bit era, so I can't say. I have pretty much lost all interest in the genre.

But I'm specifically talking about RPGs. I feel like RPGs need to have towns / NPCs or an important dynamic is missing. It's just my opinion of course, but not one that's likely to change.

the point is srpgs arent about towns, and things of that nature, ita all about the battle screen..........time taken away from the battle screen is time wasted

personally i have never seen Growlanser as a Strategy rpg, as Daveyd i too dont care too much about srpgs (Disgaea is boring as hell, FFT rocks) and i see Growlanser more as a RPG and thats why i like it, so for me is hard to recommend Growlanser to pure srpg gamers.
