Nothing is in serious jeopardy of disappearing.Hold on while I go wrestle the aliens sitting outside your window into submission. Current-generation platforms are very far behind current technology. And the severe cost of manufacturing "AAA" titles has little to do with the hardware. New hardware would make it easier for companies to meet current graphical demands instead of trying to weasel what they can out of hardware.
I suppose we should stop all technological progression in fear of the Earth's rotation coming to a halt.
