Yakuza 5 finally has playable female character!! Haruka

I have yet to play a Yakuza game, though if I have the time/money, I might pick one of em up...how story driven are they? Just curious

Very story driven (and the stories are really good too, except for Dead Souls which is a silly spin-off with zombies)

So is Yakuza played in parts then? I thought you could choose who to play as? O.o

Starting with Yakuza 4, there is more than one main character in each game and you'll play as the different characters as the story progresses. Then when you get close to the end of the game you'll be given the option to play as whoever you like. Each playable character has their own sizable chunk of story and side quests.

Yakuza 4 has a neat feature that basically lets you watch all of the important cutscenes from the previous games. It takes around an hour to watch them all but it's worth it if you don't have time to play them all.

If you do have the time, they're all worth playing though. Especially 3 and 4, they're excellent.

Dead Souls is drastically different, but it's pretty fun for what it is. But I wouldn't recommend it as your first Yakuza.

Sounds like it'd be cheaper to buy Yakuza 4, and then just watch the cutscenes, and continue from Yakuza 4, into Yakuza 5

JP dub only, right? This would be one of the few games (since it takes place in the real world) where that'd make sense

Yeah, that's an option. Not a bad idea at all if you don't have time to play them all or want to save money. 4 is the best one so far, anyway.

And yeah, they all keep the original Japanese voice acting, except for the first one which has an ill-advised English dub. The Japanese voice acting is pretty top notch, too. Aya Hirano is even in it.

It's very rare for me to say that I'd prefer the JP VAs in a game, so for those that prefer the original dub...take this as a win
