Ahaha. XD; Well, I don't think they're releasing PS2 games anymore, so localizing it there doesn't seem to have much point. Maybe it could be for the PSN or something, but I'm not sure that the company localizing it is familiar with how all of that works. NISA could probably help (I think NIS had a role in developing the PS2 version), but I'm not really sure if they want to split any profits like that.

Yes, if you want a PS2 version, bug NISA. But I'm pretty sure they're done with PS2 releases. They didn't release it in the past 5 years. They're not likely going to want it to release it now.

The reason JAST is localizing the game is that Xuse (the original developer) contacted them and basically handed them a translation.

Which probably really cut down on production costs, actually. o.O Good move. It'd be nice to see the graphics updated a bit, but even without that, I intend to get this.

I agree with the Sakura Wars/Power Rangers reference... Aselia's story is more 'real' (I put that word in quotes, because it IS fantasy, after all). In particular, as you come to understand the circumstances under which the protagonist has been dragged into fighting, it's a bit horrifying for anyone with a scrap of empathy. Also, none of the endings feel like they are wasted... rather the reverse. Each heroine's ending has its own unique aspect to it, so you don't really feel it is tacked on, even though the paths split at the last second. On your second playthrough, even the extra characters take on a life of their own, adding new scenes to the ending, which is something I think more rpgs should do.

Rather than 'real' I should have said 'human' as what is going on at the beginning of the story - for all its mystical aspects - is all too human. Jrpgs usually tend to be either rather light or overly melodramatic (both tactics used to distance you from the 'reality' of what is going on) when it comes to the human drama, but Aselia manages to strike a perfect balance, being dark without being so melodramatic that it loses its emotional effect.

I still say JAST would get more sales if they also release it on Steam. And possibly PSN/XBLA. No one goes to the JAST site except a few VN players, but a whole bunch of people go on Steam.

If you guys want I could ask JAST USA about the possibility of releasing both the all-ages version and the adult+extra content version, and whether they'd consider releasing it on Steam/PSN/XBLA. I doubt we'd get the answers we want, though.

I've already asked about the possibility of a Special Edition in the official FAQ thread. I haven't asked about Steam; I can only assume that, as a business, making the game available at as many outlets as possible is one of their primary goals. I'm sure it's something they're looking into, if it's possible. A PSN release is not very likely, as JAST USA doesn't do console releases.

It's been confirmed that the chances of a Special Edition release (the updated 18+ version) are slim to none. I just posted a question about Steam.
