The whole reason I brought it up though was because it's convinced me to buy the game. May seem silly to let something like that influence my decision, but I really think he's that good. My dream would be for him and Yasunori Mitsuda to produce their own album or something.

Are you planning on getting the other two first? As someone who has played ME 1+2, it's an infinitely better experience if you know what's happened before. You really get attached to the world and its characters, not to mention your own Shepard.

I don't have a 360, so I'll have to make due with PS3's 2 and Mass Effect Genesis to fill me in with what's going on. I'm only worried because I wasn't completely impressed with Knights of the Old Republic. When I get a 360 (which will be a long time from now, since I'd like a PSP and 3DS first), I also plan on playing the entire trilogy on there.

And I suppose I could get the OST, but I've been interested in trying Mass Effect for a while, but needed that one thing to tip the scales to convince me to buy it. This composer is it.

I'm still on the edge. I'm just not sure you know.

Knights of the Old Republic is stat-based. Mass Effect 2...is not. Mass Effect 1 is more of a hybrid. The Mass Effect series was designed from the ground up to be a cinematic experience, much moreso than KotOR. And of course, without the Force, the entire game is much less focused on the whole alignment thing. I'd say that, overall, the Mass Effect series feels much more "real", but at the same time not quite as "elaborate". I liked both series though.

I do love my cinematics. <3

But hows the battle system? I was really annoyed how I couldn't really do anything but watch and heal in KOTOR. Is it more like an action game where you actually pull the trigger and stuff? I could get behind that.

Yes. Mass Effect 2 was targeted right at gamers like you. That was the very reason I had reservations about the game before I played it.

Why, does ME1 have the qualities I might not like?

ME1 is more stat-based, and therefore somewhat more complex. You're still pulling a trigger, but your accuracy is determined by your weapon stat and the current "heat level" of your weapon. You also have unlimited ammo, so you can often stay behind cover and slowly whittle down the enemy.

By stat-based do you mean more RPGish? Just curious.

Yes. Mass Effect 1 is an RPG with shooter mechanics. Mass Effect 2 is a shooter with RPG mechanics.

Thanks. It sounds like I'd prefer Mass Effect over Mass Effect 2. :S

I'm not daunted by what ME1 offers either. It still seems more interactive than KOTOR's system. Hell, any JRPG battle systems seems more interactive than KOTOR.

Which is certainly interesting, considering how much I love Xenosaga.

So you say now. But if you play 1 and like it, you'll want to see what happens next. Even I have to admit 2 was better than 1--and I hardly play anything except RPGs. Just don't go overboard on the mining like I did...in both games...

Yeah that's how I am. The fact that this is a shooter has made me stay away from it for a long time but I may give a try.

Many fans of the first game were apprehensive about the changes being made. I was on the Bioware forums during the leadup to ME2, and pretty much every topic that was slightly connected to the combat turned into a flame war. However once it actually came out, people loved it. Even the hard-line RPG fans. ME2 is more polished overall, and combat just works better than in the first one (though I still don't like how biotic powers were given a universal cooldown).

 I went completely overboard in #2. By the end I'd basically strip-mined the galaxy. For such a simple minigame, the mining is very addictive.

I've never been a shooter fan (I'm actually really terrible at them), but I count Mass Effect 2 as one of my favourite games. It's much more than the sum of its parts. If you do decide to play it, I'd like to know what you think. :)

I can't wait to start hitting on all the female characters as female shepherd. Although I am a bit disappointed by the options.
Spoiler:
I wanted Miranda so bad. :( I'm already sad.
