ZHP's was near-literal? From what I heard about it reading on Silconera, it was far more "localized" than most translations go.

I think you got confused somewhere. ZHP was a very to the source translation, because it relied so heavily on the sentai theme, which America is quite exposed to.

The spriteless characters have dubs because they were already in disc, in the main story. Red and 5cp were announced in Japan after NISA had already finished dubbing -- they didn't have time.

Love the localization that was done for this game. Bang Zoom! Entertainment did another wonderful job with the script. For those curious about who voiced who in English: here's a list I've complied so far. Feel free to add in for those characters I've yet figured out for. Would love to hear what others think who voices who ;)

Neptune: Melissa Fahn (Edward from Cowboy Bebop,Rika from Digimon Tamers, Chizuko from Mahoromatic)
IF: Kate Higgins (C.C. from Code Geass, Kuroi-sensei from Lucky Star, Sakura from Naruto)
Compa: Cristina Vee (Noel from Blazblue, Louise from Familiar of Zero, Mio from K-ON)
Vert: Tara Platt (Temari from Naruto, Mitsuru from Persona 3, Tokiko from Buso Renkin)
Blanc: Wendee Lee (Faye from Cowboy Bebop, Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Rushuna from Grenadier)
Nisa: Michelle Ruff (Rukia from Bleach, Aoi from Aoi Yori Aoshi, Euphemia from Code Geass)
Historie: Shephanie Sheh (Orihime from Bleach, Mikuru from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Gurtrud from Strike Witches)

Still Figuring Out: Noire, Arfoirie, Gust ^_^;

i'm playing with the Japanese voices. i don't mind them so far, not sure why everyone hates Compa's voice. my only complaint is that when they're talking in battle there are no subtitles. so scenes like the one at the beginning of the game when everyone is ganging up on Neptune may be lost on people who don't know Japanese. it's not a huge deal but i wish subtitles could be inserted into those kind of scenes, whether it's in-game or CG or whatever.

...to each his own. :) Besides, its because of the Japanese dub we get voice over companies like Bang Zoom! Entertainment to make an English dub for us. For comparison purposes of course. To me, as long as the dub can stand on its own apart from its Japanese counterpart, I'm happy. :)

You name those three but not Etna, one of the main mascots of NIS? For shame.

This is the first time where I did my first play through with the english dub and I must say its really good. Not that far into the game but I love Neptune's (before transformation) and IF's voice.

Greatest English dub ever, right up there with Koudelka (also one of the greatest dubs)! ^-^

Agreed.

I dunno if I'd go that far. Admittedly I've only actually heard it via YouTube clips, but I'm going to say the greatest English dub ever still goes to Makai Kingdom.

Just wanted to chip in and say what a great dub this is as well.

I've not yet come across a single character that sounded out of place, or nerve grating or annoying at all. Even the silhouette voices are well done.

I knew someone was gonna hound me for this one. Besides, I still think Kim Mai Guest was the better Etna IMHO. Sadly, she only did the role for the original PS2 release...wonder why the change to Michelle? Then again, I could say the same thing with having Wendee Lee play Zhen Ji in the newer Dynasty Warrior game instead of Michelle... (Completely off tangent I know... :geek: )

I like Michelle Ruff's rendition better :)

It's because Atlus USA was the one who did Disgaea HoD, so it was their studio, and their va's. And, Kim is probably union. Either way, I like Michelle Ruff better, so I am quite fine with things the way they went ~

mind clarifying this, because it sounds like you think Atlus has their own recording studio and stable of voice actors
