So now, the latest game from Tri-cresendo is finally hit stateside.
This game has been heavily anticipated by American RPG fans everywhere, but does it live up to the hype?
Well, who knows (lol, not IGN, Gameinformer, or Nintendo Power).
Some briefing before you go:
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Fragile / Fragile Dreams for short) is the latest game to come from Tri-Cresendo. The game mixes the creepy aspects of a Survival Horror game with the entrancing story and elements of an RPG. In the game you play as Seto, a boy who finds himself to be the survivor of a devastating event that turns the lush earth he knew into a desolate post-apocalyptic wasteland. After finding a letter from his deceased grandfather, Seto sets of to find other survivors. Upon searching, Seto comes across a young silver-haired girl, so suddenly runs away from him. See as the girl is the only survivor that Seto has found so far, he chases after her.
Gameplay:
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, is a unique game. It plays out like a Survival Horror game such as Silent Hill, but has the engrossing story as a well found RPG, with some adventure game elements thrown in as well. In the game, you use your wii-mote to control your flashlight lighting you way down dark hallways and rooms. One of the more unique features of this game is the use of the Wii-motes speakers. The speakers do two things in the game. First when pointing at the screen the speakers will allow you to hear what is just up head, whether they be monsters or something else, which is really helpful when your paranoid. Second is whispering, whenever you have a partner with you, if you turn the wii-mote upwards and put it to your ear, your partner will talk to you, giving you advice about the location, or just tell you whatever's on their mind.
Graphics:
This by far is one of the greatest looking games on the Wii. Every area you go through will have the atmosphere you'd expect it to have in real life. Even though your in an apocalyptic wasteland, everything looks so lush and mood-fitting, almost like a painting. Another thing I'd like to point out about this games is the actual locations themselves, usually from a game like this you'd expect for everything to be all dark, in this case, it's not always that. every hour of the day can be experienced her, from midnight, to mid-morning, to sunset.
Sound:
Everything fits here. The music for the game, while there not being much, is very good, and also fits the setting and mood well. Not to mention the voice-acting is pretty good as well, but if your so disgusted with the English language, there is an option to have the original Japanese voices with English subtitles.
Lasting Appeal:
For a newer game, it's actually a pretty decent length lasting up to twelve hours or so.
Though, that may not be very long, you will not be disappointed, you will be so engrossed in the story
that you won't care how long it lasts, heck you'll be asking for more. Not to mention some little goodies for after you complete the game.
Closing Thoughts:
If you have a Wii, buy this game. You won't regret it.
The story is emotionally engrossing (heck, even I cried some during it), and the game just flows nicely.
Sure the game has some flaws such as the menus, and inventory, not to mention the difficulty and creepy atmosphere will be a turn off to a younger audience. Though once you finish the game, you probably won't want to go back to it, unless you want to. Overall, the game is great, but it's weighted down by its flaws.
The concept of the game is good, but could use some work, I do hope that Tri-Crensedo will continue to make these types of games. not to mention, i think this game could be the origin point to a new Genre-Hybrid of Survival Horror and RPG.
