BTW, Nintendo Power's review was summed up here. It was a short review. Saw it in my local B&N, too. The "issues" aren't explained, although the context suggested the quirky, conversation-heavy game design.

10 hours in and halfway through the game? I remember reading that each chapter had at least 4-5 hours worth of gameplay in them...

Rushing is a very good possibility. I probably would have done the same on the second playthrough if I were him, unless I wanted to read everything again. If he did this his first time, that's his loss.

N64 has better graphics? Please... SWV is one of the best looking PS2 games I've played over the years.

That's shocking, really. IGN hardly ever gives anything that's not a FPS or something that's not a long running franchise anything above a 7. I wasn't expecting an anime-heavy game that's about five years old to get that high of a score from them.

Not surprised with IGN, they're like Gamespot, usually very lenient with their scores. I'm expecting at least an 8 or above from them myself. Shouldn't be too surprising. Those reviewers who gave it a low score are the ones who wouldn't appreciate such a foreign concept.

IGN gave Ar tonelico II an 8.4 score and also the Best PS2 Game of 2009 Award so I say it's quite possible. But I do wonder if they will give Sakura Wars Best PS2 Game of 2010 Award for it not having any competition. Oh well I would be happy with Sakura Wars winning something.
