Ar Tonelico 2 The Girls' Metafalica that Echoes to the World

Postby kagamism » Thu Jun 23, 2011 10:27 am

I'd kill to see this game brought to the US.

Official JP site: http://ar-tonelico.jp/at2/

No, I am not talking about that hack job NIS America released several years ago under the name "Ar Tonelico: Melody of Metafalica". That was not Ar Tonelico 2. That was a disgrace, as we all know.

I am being serious here.

And my serious answer, is that unless it gets put in an HD colllection, it won't happen.

There's a fan relocalization going on though.

EDIT
I am not a part of NISA. So don't take my word for the Company's word

This is a great way to talk to/about a company if you want them to take you seriously.

I am being sarcastic here.

I have always believed that NIS America's business strategy from the start has been flawed. To add to this, I have now learned that NIS America (or at least one of its public representatives) does not tolerate even passive-aggressive criticism. Taking criticism and customer feedback (whether it be complaints, suggestions, or praise) in a serious and responsive manner, no matter the form, are essential for doing good business.

I am not a consultant for NIS America so my opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. My opinions will also likely be shot down purely for the fact that I am criticizing NIS America on their forums.

However, my criticism/complaint still stands: Ar Tonelico: Melody of Metafalica does not do Ar Tonelico 2 justice.

My hope is that more customer/fan-oriented employees at NIS America remember complaints such as these, and take precautions so that they do not butcher future localizations.

Believe me, they're sorry for what happened with AT 2, but there's nothing they can do short of an HD collection/remake.

I commend you (vampko) for the amount of restraint you've shown in responding to my posts.

Perhaps NIS America's actual forum administrators (essentially, its public representatives) should take a lesson from you in properly responding to and handling its customers/fans. Currently, it seems they are prone to lashing out in retaliation to posts by customers criticizing the company's work.

However, if NIS America really is sorry for what happened with Ar Tonelico 2, I have not seen a shred of evidence of that anywhere. It just feels like they tried to shove it under the rug, while continuing to treat its current niche fanbase in a manner that makes me sick.

Perhaps there is material online where NIS America has addressed this?

That's like, cool and all, but...

Dude, you came in pointing out a subject many have already mentioned while being the most offensive, bitchy, and downright annoying about it, and you expect any representative to take your complaint seriously? It's no matter that you're in the Official Forums or not, it's about articulating your post correctly. What about mentioning the issue in a less flamebaity, immature manner? Better yet, doing some research beforehand, like any sane man? This is some GameFAQs Top-10 Boards level trollin', bro. Fo' reals.

But seriously, if you've kept up with the matter they've apologized a whole lot. Google is your friend, young man. As I'm quite too lazy to look it up for you.

You know, when I pick up a game from the store and play it and find that it is riddled with typos and errors, my first impulse is not to do a Google search for: "Did this localization company publicly apologize for this?"

And so what, I'm playing the US Ar Tonelico 2 late. Is that a problem? I am requesting that they make their mistake right by re-doing their localization. In short, I am a disgruntled, dissatisfied customer who is a fan of GUST games, but not of NIS America.

Either way, I've been told the most likely answer (from vampko), that NIS America won't do anything about it.

They aren't programmers. GUST would have to be willing to work with them for a relocalization. NISA would have to do a redub. Which is VERY costly. Then, they would be trying to sell a PS2 game in a market where the PS2 has all but died.

It's not worth the huge risk. But, if GUST were to rerelease an HD collection, or just Remake the second game (It's kind of the best Ar tonelico game) for a current gen platform, then NISA would be under MUCH LESS risk, and would likely localize it with a redub and everything.

But, it all hinges on what GUST does for now.

This is what I've gathered from all my time spent here, and the research I've done on the internet.

You aren't going to get very far by being rude and passive-aggressive to the staff here, no matter how "righteous" a cause you may think you have or how "just" you think your outrage is.

What the others have said is true - a relocalization isn't remotely on the cards. The PS2 is dead as a platform and stores refuse to stock new games for it. The game will need a new release to get another shot.

That said, given that every single ArTon game has sold six-figures in Japan, an HD collection wouldn't surprise me at all at this point...

If there was an HD Collection on the works, that'd be the ideal case. Konami's remastering their voice-work and localization on the Silent Hill series, NISA could do the same with Ar Tonelico, but we'll have to wait Gust's good will.

I really do hope so. 2 Deserves a relocalization, and it would be a great stop towards introducing Ar tonelico 4

Highly doubt that.

We might see another Atelier series like the MK series though.

But, then again, the Arland series has been crazy successful for GUST, so they may work on going towards that path some more

Atelier "something", Mana Khemia or Ar Tonelico. They should start working on only one franchise or start branching more.
