Wii Version Locking/Freezing Up Game and System

Postby Asrialys » Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:32 am

Has anyone else experienced their game locking up? It all started in the Chapter 4 boss battle and has happened to me again in the Chapter 5 boss battle (and just as I was about to finish him off too!). The game just freezes and a constant tone is heard. I have to unplug and plug back in my system.

It would help if you could remember what you did at the time it locked up both times so that others could try to replicate it.

It happened several times, but from three different moments that I can remember (so far).

Chapter 4
-Freezes as the scene changes when Ratchet tells you that some Dark Pneuma has appeared in Central Park. Just before the Masked Girl appears on screen.
-Froze as an enemy unit was about to attack Rosita in flight mode. This was while I was still destroying those generator things.

Chapter 5
-Froze right when I pushed A to do a Joint attack for Diana with Rosita on the head for the final blow.

Hm, maybe it's my system. It's one of those that were bought on release day...

I am also playing the Wii version, currently starting Chapter 7. I'll run through chapters 7-8 6x and 1-6 1x from here on out. No freezes for me so far, and like 3-4 typos. I've been making short work of the battles (ignoring lots of enemies & boss parts)... so I might not be as likely to run into stuff. How old is your Wii; where did you buy your game; do you have WiiConnect24 disabled, etc?

Do you have WiiConnect24 disabled?

I'm still curious about your case because it's the only I've heard like it, besides those which could be answered easily by the above two questions.

It could be just the disc. I have bought brand new wii games that will work one minute and then freeze my wii the next. When I traded the copy in the game worked fine. So if you still can, I would trade it in for a new copy seeing how this doesn't seem a widely known problem.

Eh, before you ask that, there is another possibility with the disc that has to be eliminated first. WiiConnect24 always should be turned off, too, to prevent overheating.

I have wii connect on all the time. For the most part I never have an issue with game. Only a couple of instances have I had a freezing problem and like I said it was fixed by trading in the disc. Of course you could still try turning it off and seeing if Red's idea helped.

Bought from RosenQueen.

I guess I'll try with WiiConnect24 off.

My Wii has froze before, but not like this. All the past freezes came from transitioning to a new screen where it goes black and just stays like that.

WiiConnect24 was brought up in a RPGamer podcast when one of their staffers talked about his Wii breaking down too quickly. Eventually it was suggested that he turn that feature off because it actually continues to run except without the fan to cool it. There might be extra wear n tear over time.

I have noticed sound problems and slowdown with SW Wii, so I'm not trying to dismiss more bugs.

Same. Like when the boss is about to do some massive attack, the audio sort of cuts out and it's silent. Only happens sometimes though.

Yeah, I noticed some minor audio/video issues on the Wii version of the game, but I mostly wrote it off as being due to it being a port of the PS2 version.

What's odd is, my JP language PS2 disc does this too...
I wonder if I got a faulty print.

Eh well, still freaking love this game.

Finished it (most everything is unlocked--missed 1 scene with Kayama at Battery Park--besides character-specific stuff bwahahaaha)! There were 5-10 s in battle 8-6 when I was worried the slowdown would lock up my Wii, but I came out ok. I think I was able to skip it the next time he ran that special (Pathway to Hell), so hopefully it won't happen again. Minor audio issues in most of the battles.
