Niche classics might be a sleeper hit for N1.

It's not as if they'd be breaking new ground and giving the world something it's never seen before. That's generally how sleeper hits work. Disgaea was a sleeper hit because it was something the West had never really seen, and it was executed very well. Same for stuff like Katamari Damacy.

Old game compilations (especially a collection of RPGs with little to no nostalgia value and an intimidating amount of required playtime to see it all) are not really a recipe for success.

You are, of course, correct that it could be a sleeper hit. But sleeper hits are by their very nature unpredictable, so it's not like we could go in banking on that.

Well, pulling off a N1 Collection would be something unpredictable, that's for sure.

I did not think it would sell anywhere near as good as anything with Sonic's name on it, but I get that the PSP is dead to you guys and you prefer to sell games on the PS3 and NIS probably does not want to remake their older games since the Japanese apparently does not like to buy the same game twice, but Americans are more malleable when comes to ports (or so I have heard), and I like to think that some fans would like to see NIS' game's grandfathers and how it all began, and even more would probably buy La Pucelle for PS3 if they had the chance.

Well even though you say that, the Marl Kingdom games are a niche series among the niche series of games like Disgaea. I can see where they're coming from when they say it just wouldn't appeal to enough people.
That said, I think these games were marketed to girls in Japan, I'm not sure how well that would work in America ( I'd wager it would deter a lot of potential male buyers )

Chiere could probably do the trick as well:

Neither image works.

Also if Recettear can sell on Steam and other digital download services, the Marl Kingdom series might. But then, I don't think NIS(A) bothers with PC.

Do want!!

Rhapsody was one of my childhood faves growing up and its what introduced me to RPGs. I guess you could call it my first "lite" RPG before I moved on to the more hardcore stuff like Grandia.

Anyways, till this day that game holds a special place in my heart. The characters, story and setting is so charming and touching. I can't believe NISA never tried to bring its sequels to America when they bring Moe/Loli trash instead. :(

I support this thread!! NISA, please bring the sequels to Rhapsody over to the U.S. Let me relive my childhood memories
Bring less Moe and more traditional Classic JRPGs to the U.S.

It's still pretty funny though, the way she contradicts herself.

How am I contradicting myself.... The Rhapsody games have no Moe/Lolicon whatsoever. Sure the character designs are a bit Moe looking but they never sexualize the characters. (Except for Marjorly but that's different since she's obviously a grown adult woman)

The Puppet Princess series in particular is aimed at little girls in Japan so there's not much degrading going on in the series. (Hell Cornet rescues the Prince instead of the other way around)

Also @ Houk: You're one of the mods right... Does that mean you work for NISA... If so could you please please bring over the sequels to Rhapsody to America, pretty please with a cherry on top^^

Moe doesn't mean 'sexual', you're mixing up words here.

Moe can be sexual, but so can 'cute', and 'handsome'. So there's no point in saying that. Moe is basically just being cute pretty much.

Or are you going to say this :

is sexual?

yeah Houk works for NISA. he's even one of their script editors. but he doesn't have the power to decide what they localize, that's decided by the higher ups.

i would love to see NISA localize these games because they're very interesting games and they obviously appeal to a different demographic (and what company doesn't want to expand their fanbase?) however, like others have said, PS2 and PSP are virtually dead in the US so if we ever want to see these games localized they'll probably have to be ported to PS3 or Vita. And even then there's no guarantee NISA will localize them. i'm pretty sure they lost money on Rhapsody DS.

I hate to say this, but I think part Rhapsody DS's unpopularity is NISA's fault. I don't know what happened in their studio during that time, but a major thing was advertising the extra content, then players discover that they cut the extra content out. Not to mention some other things that weren't right.

If it came out the same time as Ar Tonelico 2, I wonder if the same team handled it...
