How does the digital form of soundtracks on Amazon work? Is it a voucher that redeems on a music downloading site?

You check out at the Amazon MP3 store, and it's automatically added to your Amazon's CloudDrive. You can immediately download your mp3's, and download them later from your CloudDrive.

The CloudDrive is basically their Internet storage service, you get 5 GB free with an Amazon account, but none of your Amazon MP3s will use that quota (unless you delete them from your CloudDrive, which is the same as relinquishing your rights to it). I use the CloudPlayer at work, which streams it from your CloudDrive. I think I have roughly 10 GB of MP3s purchased through Amazon, and it's worked spiffy. It also syncs with my Android devices with the AmazonMP3 application, so I can take a copy of my MP3s anywhere. I'm sure I just described how it works anywhere though. What I like the most is that everything I buy is DRM free... which I'm sure iTunes has as well. The major difference between the two services for me is that I don't like how iTunes takes over my media collection, so I don't have to deal with that this way.

I've never had a problem with my Apple products or iTunes, hence why I recommended it in this thread. Obviously, user experience will vary, but iTunes has been an effective option for me when various other music downloading sites and PC based programs have given me problems (back in the day and when I use my work's equipment).

@ Solice

Thx for the explanation.

Agreed. Personally, I've had nothing but issues when dealing with iTunes. It, for whatever reason, needs to transcode (re-encode in it's own format, reducing quality), rename, reorganize, make duplicate copies, and refile my media without me telling it to in addition to having another application on and booting up with my computer.. I recommend AmazonMP3 because I don't need any software to interface with it at all and the MP3s are DRM-free; I can use the web interface (which works on mobile devices and computer) or use the Android app. Obviously, there are advantages to many music sales sites.

Reencoding, renaming, reorganizing, duplicating, refiling, launching on startup/having a tray icon is all controlled in the preferences/user options. I use iTunes because I have an iPod and iPhone, and I find its CD ripping to be satisfactory, so I know there are options to get around all of those complaints you listed.

Obviously it's better if you didn't have to turn these options off in the first place, and you're free to use whatever software you like better, I just wanted to point out that iTunes can be configured to be "just a music player" without the annoyances.

Agreed. I own zero Apple products and I think that's the way it's gonna be. But I have to admit that I'm kinda a Sony fanboy. I almost always buy their walkmans since they usually don't require any software except my old NW-E003 (which I'm using now cuz my NWZ-B143F's headphone jacket broke) does require Sonicstage >_>. And they are also the coolest looking ones IMO.

Nowadays I listen to music either on my PC, car, cellphone or with that walkman I mentioned above when I'm going to sleep.

Well, for many "trendy" people, owning apple products is a social status symbol. Basically, the mentality is "all the 'cool' kids own it, so I should too." It sucks but that's how everything is in the world, it's fanboyism in some way, shape or form. I don't really understand it b/c (practically) everything is made in China anyways... :|

Well, Apple products are pretty stylish, they're rather nice-looking things, and they're reasonably simple things to use, although if something does wrong with one, there's not a lot you can do about it, being closed units.

I got an iPod Mini in 2003 because, of the available MP3 players back then, it had a lot of storage, I liked the iPod interface, and it was pretty cheap (used off Amazon). I still use the same one today.

I bought an iPhone for multiple reasons. My old provider did not have service in Wisconsin, so I had a lot of trouble getting reception regardless of where I was. I also wanted a GPS/map system and a digital camera (having neither at the time), and I had a lot of exposure to my friend's iPhone while we were at a convention. On top of that, I would get a discount on the service through work, so I felt it was worth the investment. I have loved it since.

If nothing else, you have to admit that Apple does a really good job of making their products appealing and marketing well. Topping it off with the fact that their products typically also perform very well, giving them superb reviews, and it's natural for them to be gobbled up by consumers. However, as I explained for myself, there are certainly many informed consumers out there who do their research and come to the conclusion that Apple is their best choice.

I had an Iphone. It was neat. Then I got myself an Xperia, and the Android interface is just sooo much better. And the Market has waaaay more free stuff.

I don't really see the appeal in Apple products, especially when you have to do a workaround to get them to lose their DRM and play on other non-apple certified devices.

But, whatev

People like what people like.

I don't buy music/videos from the Apple store, and when I do, I get it on my computer so it downloads in the format I choose. RE: app store, I don't really use any apps on my iPhone except the Ascension app :) so I haven't noticed that deficiency yet. I do know that a lot of people prefer the Android iOS, and that Android hardware is now caught up to the iPhone, so I would expect Androids to start outnumbering iPhones soon.

The only Apple products I have are a Iphone and a Ipod. I didn't even care to get one, but my friends thought I deserved to have something nice and bought me a Ipod. Then later they bought me a Iphone. It's hard to give back a gift to someone that spends so much money so I decided to keep them.

I've only use my Ipod for music. Plus I only got one app for my Iphone which is a free alarm.
Now, if Nisa decided to put some music on Itunes then I wouldn't have a problem buying them on it, but other then that I'm not really a big fan of Apple products. But that is just me.

Yeah I don't really like apple products. They're frustrating for me to use in general (Seriously I hate the interfaces they make) and despite claims of them being stylish I've always disliked them aesthetically too.

I was given an ipod ages ago and have yet to use it at all. it just sits here and instead of using it I just bought a psp a few months later and used that to replace my old mp3 that had broken. I just don't like their products lol

All music purchases; and some select videos, are all DRM free.
It's been like that for two years, and so many things support iTunes format that it's not a hassle to use at all.

Hell, the more recent versions allow you to right click on a purchased song and make an MP3 copy of it.

*Looks at his blackberry and PSP*

They've always worked, ever since I made my account early last year, so I really don't get what you all are saying about DRM, since it's non existent.
