Aselia the Eternal - A Defining VN-SRPG - Gets Released!

I thought this game was supposed to be 15+? What was changed? Either way I'm glad to read this as I held off on getting it cause the release was so up in the air. This'll be my first and last PC purchase. Well, I'll have to fix my PC first...

"All-ages" is a euphemism in the VN community for "doesn't contain ero". JAST apparently didn't get the game rated by the ESRB (which takes money and time, and doesn't generally do them much good). The game was rated 12+ in Japan, according to VNDB.

Oh, okay, makes sense. But wouldn't it be better to just suggest their own age rating rather than label the game all ages? I imagine that there's something in the game that people will find not suitable for "all ages" Of course I'm not that familiar with the industry, especially the publication methods jAST USA uses with their games.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective. For JAST, the main message they want to get across is that the game isn't an adults-only game. Given that their usual fanbase is adults, the tight-knitted nature of the VN community, and the fact that transactions will take place online, they must assume that there's little chance that a child will get ahold of the game unless an adult "in the know" gives it to them. Nevertheless, I posted the concern on the JAST boards.

If you're talking about the picture in the top row, second from the left, that's not a panty shot. That's the hem of her dress. I haven't played this version of the game, but I do expect that there's mature themes and mild sexually suggestive content.

Do you know anything about an intended release date or (smaller)window? Or would it still be conjecture at this point? I'm still waiting to see if it'd interfere with other purchases.

JAST says it should release by the end of October. It went Golden Master on September 21.

Rightstuf, JAST USA Store or Jbox. May be more places. Not certain what the difference is in pre-ordering from the JAST store or Jbox, as they're owned by the same guy.

I honestly think it would sell like hotcakes if they put this up on Steam and/or GamersGate along with their own site.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to pick this one up. It'd be my first foray into the world of licensed VN games and I've love to support the industry. I couldn't tell from the exchange about a page back - are there any significant (as in, not simply translation disparities) differences between the original and the NA version? Any "objectionable" material removed? I like my games unfiltered and uncut.

This version of Aselia is, I believe, the cleaner version (which I believe was bundled together with some other release in Japan or something). They're trying to point out that Visual Novels can be suitable for everyone, not just adults, and expand their fanbase... but it's got a fantastic story in spite of that. So, yeah. It's theoretically an All Ages game, but Aselia is good enough to be worth playing despite that. 18+ stuff is really easy to find, but good stories... not so much.
