^ Wasn't there some story/plot/background details outright changed because it's not adult-rated, though?

After reading through the thread some more, and realizing that the system spec requirements on these types of games are low, and the resolution they run at is also low, I had a thought that they would be well suited for play on mobile devices (smartphones and the like). In fact, 640x480 would look far more palatable on a 4.5" screen rather than the 30" Dell I use at home (or the 60" HDTV I switch to for easy chair PC gaming, for that matter). I wonder if there's a way to get something like this running on an Android device. Shorter gaming sessions on a smartphone would also help me get through a VN as opposed to getting bored with the endless clicking while sitting at my PC for longer gaming sessions.

It's probably impossible. I know these are made for Windows OS, and I'm not aware of even an older windows version emulator for android. Still, it would be really cool nonetheless.

edit: ha! looks like someone had a similar idea: https://market.android.com/details?id=o ... sbox&hl=en the first screenshot is of what I assume is a VN. Then again, the reviews indicate this app doesn't really work well, and it seems limited to DOS, which would eliminate all but the oldest VNs, but maybe there are other apps...

@Neon01: It's important to remember that this is a Visual Novel. It's basically an interactive book.

@LAMV: Eh. A bit. Not too much, though.

That's exactly my point. What better way to "play" than to use a mobile device that you can take anywhere with you? I read a lot more now than I ever did before simply because all of my kindle books are accessible from my phone, so if I'm watching my kids play in the basement or waiting at the dentist, I've always got something to read. I feel much less motivated to go all the way to my PC, load up the "game", and read for an hour or so. Especially considering the little time I generally have to play video games, I'd usually prefer to play something more interactive anyway.

TLDR: I can think of no better way to "play" a novel than in small increments when I get the opportunity, just like a real novel. And I can think of no better way to do that than with a mobile device.

Well, the rape route was taken out for obvious reasons in the all-ages version. I'm not intimately familiar with all the changes, as I've only played the original. I talked with a friend who'd played the all-ages version however, and it seemed like removing the adult content opened a couple plot holes--the rape scene with the enemy spirit at the beginning of the original, while seemingly random and inconsequential, is actually the premise underlying the rest of the story. On the other hand, the all-ages version contains a significant amount of extra content, including additional routes, scenes, and CG.

On the bright side, JAST also licensed the sequel, Seinarukana, which remains 18+.

Aselia the Eternal has been released: http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2011/2411.html

The suggested retail price is $30. I've seen prices as low as $23.

they need to put it on another system or sell it on amazon or something (steam would be nice). Customs and shipping makes me not want to buy it from the US.

The game will be available for direct download at JAST USA or JBox in the near future: http://www.jastusa.com/forums/viewtopic ... 25#p108682

Looks like it could be interesting(Looks like a traditional tactic game from what I could see, with some RPG eliments, simular to Brigandine on the PS1, just with more territories, and it being individual char based, instead of general/squad based).

Even though there's not much info on the game mechanics them selves, It's cheap enough that It's probally worth the shot in the dark.

One question though, aren't they suppose to be making a PS2 port as well, I only see the PC versian available?

There is a PS2 port. It won't be localized. The PC version that has been localized however is identical to the PS2 port in content.

I should emphasize that this is a story-focused game. The gameplay, while good, is not the main strength of the game. It's the combination of solid gameplay and strong story that makes the game shine.

I also added a gameplay video to the opening post.

Ok sigh, guess I'll just have to get the PC version then.

Ok(I'm more of a gameplay person, but as long as the gameplay is still decent, It's still probally worth playing).

Is each char unique/fixed, can you choose classes or what(how does the char advancement systems work)?

In any case, NIS probably holds the rights to the PS2 version, since they published it. You should bug them about it. :P

The characters are unique. The characters learn new skills as they level up. It's been a while, so I don't remember the particulars. I know that Seinarukana awarded bonus skills for finishing a mission with a high grade, and depending on which character you gave the "point" to, a different skill unlocked. I don't remember if Aselia the Eternal does this.

NIS lol, they are too inlove with the brick(PS3), so I doubt they would be willing to localize the PS2 port.

Oh ok, sounds pretty solid.

Hot tip for newbies. The game starts out slow and boring as heck for the first chapter, which is over an hour of reading highschool drama... Don't be put off, the game isn't like this at all, and better yet, the game twists things into making the first chapter cool after you finish the game.
