Fair enough, I really don't notice it unless the option is there. Dead Island was the worst case. Nothing you did or who you were mattered in the game but I think that is how they set it up. NPC gives random quest. Was really hard to get swallowed up in story and in character like that. Mass Effect is another bad offender in my opinion. Think if they just did not do a female all that voice acting could of went to your crew who pretty much did not say all that much. Fable was terrible, another game where noone reacted to who you were. Dragon Age at times, just in the back of my head they are talking to me like I could be either way.
Roles are just played better in my opinion when there is no option but developers will do what they want to regardless. Either way I will still buy and play in most cases. Sometimes I will be better off or worse off but someone else will be the other way.
I do agree with you that the majority of games with a choice, don't have a point to that choice, and it just feels tacked on, and ends up watering down the experience overall.
In this game, I don't think it would make a huge difference, because they already have that sort of setup really.
Ah well, maybe 5 will do it?
