Nier (PS3-360)

Kay' fellas, got ending A and B, couldn't get C and D because I don't have all weapons, sadly. Here's the review of this great, great, great game. Won't use scores or anything this time- they wouldn't do this game justice. So here we go:
Image
First of all, Nier is a game developed by Cavia and published by Square Enix, but y'all know that. The version I played was the PS3 one, runned smoothly and while it had some frame drops in some parts, the whole game ran fluidly.
Story:

The story of Nier is...how to explain it without spoilers...just touching. Basically it's just a dad wanting to save his daughter, doing everything he can for it. But belive me, your perception of EVERYONE in the game will change in the NG+. It's somewhat post apocalyptic, but without guns or stuff. It's more of a rural post apocalyptic kind of thing. All the characters are really really well done, from Grimoire Weiss to Emil. The writing in the game is top notch, it's not your average JRPG writing. There's alot of parts in the game where the characters act real,
Spoiler:
they even go crazy, get mad, blinded by rage, or just stand there without saying a word.
The character development is of the best I've seen in games, and the whole story won't be told to you easily, so you have to think near the end. IMO, the showcase of humanity the characters show was truly something else. It was touching. Not only that, but there are some light hearted parts in the game. It's not all drama and Bawww, there are moments when the game really makes you laugh a way or another. Either way, when the "truth" is revealed you'll be shocked. Also the NG+...overall, the writing, the dialog, everything in the game was greatly done. I enjoyed the story alot, and I can't do anything but praise it. Maybe because it's something else, who knows.

Voice Acting/Music: The voice acting is top notch. Liam O'Brien as Grimoire Weiss, Laura Bailey as Kainé, Jamieson Price as Nier and Jilie Ann Taylor as Emil, the "main" characters, make the whole voice acting really worthwhile. My favorite voice has to be Weiss one, his British-like accent and his sarcasm really match up together in a wonderful way. The music, I actually wished it had more tracks. The songs get repeated in the game, there are bout 40 songs. But every song is really wonderful. I got Kainé's theme stuck in my head for days, the ending theme really was something else, and the whole music really catched the "dramatic" feel in the game. I really liked every bit of music in this game, it was just awesome.

Graphics: Easily put: They suck. But the art style grows on you, and graphics don't really make a game. They could've been more polished, thought.

Gameplay/Level Design: The gameplay in Nier is your normal hack n slash action RPG. Well that's it until you get into some dungeons, then some ideas truly shine: Changing the game to a top view for a Diablo-like feel, making it a shump, a 2D platformer, it's all in here. Those parts really did something for what otherwise would've been a repetitive game in combat. The boss battles are truly awesome- some are of a really big scale and each one are pretty original. The magic sometimes made the game kinda more fun, and that's something I really appreciate. There's also the forest of myth/
Spoiler:
Kainé's backstory
as text based adventures, and they are really of the best written parts of the game. Won't spoil much, but it's truly great, if you like to read that's it. The core mechanics aren't as polished as other hack n slash games, but they're fun anyways. The gameplay has great ideas, but as other reviews say, sometimes it gets stale because it shines in nothing. What those reviews don't mention is than they're all fun, anyways.

Another problem is than it's pretty obvious the game had budget limitations. Even so, it's really enjoyable.

Tl;dr: the game is just great in story/voice acting/music, and pretty average/with great ideas in gameplay. I really enjoyed it. It was fun to play, the story really got you, and the whole game was just...great.

Not really, the importing process delayed.
Getting it in a week or so...Oh well, I still got Folklore at least.

The only problem I've heard from Folklore is having to beat the areas with both characters, but it's like Pokemon with an Action RPG. Also it really made my day when I got the game and saw the booklet, a great booklet indeed. The artwork, as far as I've seen, is really great.
And I dunno why it hasn't arrived yet, to be honest, bought it on launch day. Oh well, sometimes it's just like that, I've learned to be patient thanks to it.

Well, I'm just a few hours in on Folklore, but I've gotta say, while the graphics aren't at Uncharted 2 level or whatever, the art style is just mesmerizing. You can get lost by just looking at the screen, the scenaries are just beautiful. The gameplay, while feels slower than say, Nier, still is kinda well done, pretty much a 3D Pokemon mixed with an Action RPG mixed with Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow/Aria of Sorrow. I really got used to Nier's god-tier voice acting, but the whole acting here isn't bad. The presentation of a comic book really is something I liked. I liked it alot. Those are my first impressions, dunno if I should make a full review when I beat the game. But this game is really something else, and I like that.

Hey, the ending A was pretty happy, actually. It's worth playing the NG+, as well.

Fuuu- I wanted to put that into spoilers. My bad.

Don't worry, if I have to explain it, the game's split in 2 parts. One part is light hearted and pretty happy, with some sad moments, introducing the cast, etc. And the second one is when shit gets real.
