Your First Games for Every System

Postby Sheleigha » Sat Feb 18, 2012 5:15 am

Kind of an awkward title... I don't remember a topic like this being made, sooooo: for all the systems you own/have owned, what were your first games for it? I figured this would be a fond way to look back on things :) However, I have a terrible memory for alot of it for when I really started collecting games, so it'll be hard for me to remember :p My only rule: don't count games that came bundled WITH the system. It has to be the first game you actually went out and bought for it (or received as a gift, etc). And so the whole topic isn't just lists, try and write up WHY you chose that game and/or some fond memories involving it :)
Imma start (and try and go in chronological order of the systems I own):

PC:
I HAVE NO IDEA... I was 7 when my family got its first PC... Between all the games on floppy and CD-ROM, I do not remember at all which was my first >_> My first 'gaming machine' though. Although I did borrow my cousins' NES and Genesis for a few years, they were just long borrows and never mine, thus I don't count them.

Gameboy:
Donkey Kong. It was a Christmas present, and I did then and still do suck at puzzle-platformers like that :/ I did enjoy watching my older cousin beat the whole thing over the holidays so I guess that was fun!

Gameboy Colour:
Pokemon Gold and Silver. Why else did I need to upgrade? :p For the longest time these were the ONLY ones I got for the system and I got them both at the same time. I remember hearing how they sold out in Japan in a magazine, so needed BOTH.

Playstation:
I bought a PS2 actually for PS1 games too. I heard how FFVII was the bestest thing evaaaaa so, when they still had them in Walmart, I picked it up a month before I got my PS2.

Playstation 2:
Trying to remember... This is going back to when I only had a small basket of PS2 games :p I think it was FFX, because I remember renting it on a friend's system and I HAD TO HAVE IT!!! The graphics blew my mind then :p

Gameboy Advance:
Same thing with PS2, didn't own a GBA, so I got a DS to play both. My first overall game for DS in fact, was FFIV Advance. It was that or Tales of Phantasia that was still sold at Walmart. I knew nothing of Tales at the time, so went with IV since I heard it was also supppaa amazingu!! Wish I got Tales too, despite hearing how the translating was :p (Still need to beat IV... don't wanna grind...)

DS:
...ok, trying to remember... It was either Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, or Elite Beat Agents... or was it Warioware Touched! ? I can't remember...

Gamecube:
Same thing, never owned one, got a Wii and then bought GC games for it. Lemme think here... I think it was Sonic Adventure DX, since I always wanted to play it but never had a Dreamcast.

Wii:
Since I'm NOT COUNTING Wii Sports, it would be Sonic and the Secret Rings... Blind buy, before I realized that Sonic games always go down to $20 >_>

Playstation 3:
Sonic the Hedgehog. Hmm yeah... Think I was stuck on it somewhere and never played it since, but I will attempt it again somehow!

PSP:
I got it as a bundle where I chose a game, Daxter, but not counting that. I either bought Me and My Katamari or Crisis Core first for it.

Xbox 360:
Dead Rising. I got the system, and still use it only for exclusives.

3DS:
Super Street Fighter IV. Well, when you don`t have a good launch lineup...

Vita:
??? Won't be shipped till next week, but I'm undecided what my first game for it will be.

So yes, my first games consist of Pokemon, Sonic, and FF mainly :p

First game? That's a difficult one let me think about this. I know that my first XBox 360 game was Enchanted Arms. If I recall correctly the first Nintendo game I got was Super Mario Brothers (duh.) As for the Super Nintendo I'm pretty sure my first game was Super Mario World. The rest I'm not sure of.

NES - Mario, unsurprisingly

Genesis - Sonic 1

Super NES - Either Super Mario World or Final Fantasy "III" (got those and Chrono Trigger at the same time for Christmas)

Playstation - Technically Street Fighter: The Movie (buggy so I took it back), but I think I'll consider Final Fantasy VII as officially my first PS1 game (got PS1 and some games for Christmas)

PS2 - I forget. Probably Mortal Kombat III

Gamecube - I forget, either Tales of Symphonia or one of the Mario games

DS - I think Sonic Rush

PSP - I forget

Wii - Super Paper Mario

PS3 - Several JRPGs when I got the system, I think I played Disgaea 3 first of them

Or that your first Nintendo 64 game was Superman 64.

Haha, no, I mean it was literally buggy. Some kind of glitch that would make it freeze, or something, I remember there was something wrong with it that stopped me from playing further. Though now I don't know whether it was just this specific disc (it was used rather than brand new) or all discs for that game.

Nintendo: Mario/Duck Hunt
SNES: Mario World
^ remember when game systems used to come with games? :o

GameBoy Pocket: Pokémon Red (although it technically came with Zelda: Link's Awakening, I bought it specifically for Pokémon)

PS1: I was able to convince some relatives to get me FF8 for Christmas even though I didn't own a PS1 yet. My mom at the time taught at a public school that was trying to utilize Playstations with educational games, so I eventually got her to bring one home for me to use.

PS2: Zone of the Enders. Being the first PS2 game I ever played, it was pretty damn amazing compared to all the PS1 games.

Gameboy Advance: Zelda: Four Swords. I bought this when it was on sale before I even had a GBA, just so that I would have it for when I eventually got one :X I knew I would be buying the system for Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, so it was just a matter of time.

DS: Pokémon Diamond.

PS3: I got the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle, but haven't actually played MGS4 yet >.> the first game I bought was Disgaea 3~

PSP: Final Fantasy Tactics. Another "bought before I owned the system," it's still wrapped on my shelf haha; it was on clearance at the store. First game I actually put in the system: FF Crisis Core; played it for all of 5 minutes >_> First game I actually played for an extended amount of time? Dissidia. Still haven't beaten it, I forgot all the controls when I tried to pick it back up :/

They still do :p EVERY Wii has come with either Wii Sports/Resort/NSMB/Mario Kart. DS is the only one that gets holiday bundles ONLY. And really, Gameboys have never always had games with them. Unless you bought the original grey ones that came with Tetris, every other ones only got limited bundles as well.

See how many I can remember here...

PC: I don't remember exactly but it was some collection of SSI games. It had Dungonon Hack, Stronghold, and some other games. I think a couple set in the Dark Sun universe. Had a few of these collections, so those might have been in a different one.

Atari 2600: Got this with a number of different games from somebody. Don't really remember any of them, never found them to be much fun.

NES: Discounting the bundled Mario/Duck Hunt, I'm pretty sure it was Tetris I played the that like crazy until I got Final Fantasy and turned me into an RPG nut.

SNES: Again discounting Mario, this was Megaman X and/or Street Fighter 2 (the first one, none of the Super Extra Neon-Lime-Green Championship Turbo editions). I've never seen a FF 2 (4) cart, and FF 3 wasn't out yet.

N64: Mario, Mario Kart, Starfox, Zelda. Any of those that were launch titles we got. Then we gave away the system and got a Playstation.

PS1: FF 8. The only game I've ever bought before a system. I went over to my cousin's house to play it, but never saved until we actually got the PS1.

PS2: Eternal Ring and The Bouncer. ER was terrible, Bouncer was OK. Pretty sure we got another game or two also but I don't remember. Wasn't too impressed until FF 10.

PS3: Trinity Universe maybe? That or Star Ocean 4. It was a long time before there were enough games I wanted to buy a PS3.

GameBoy: Zelda Link's Awakening I'm pretty sure. Never played portables much until the PSPgo, don't like the small screen, cramped controls, or carrying games around.

GBA: Castlevania CotM, and I think I got Pokemon Gold and Silver at the same time.

PSP: Prinny 1 and Fate/Unlimited Codes. At first I was just going to get shorter games because its a portable, so I grabbed a platformer and a fighter. Ended up buying mostly RPGs anyway.

I think that's everything. Its hard to remember the first games, since none of them are my favorites. Some of them have been a long time now, and I don't exactly have the best memory either.

Well, I meant more in reference to the systems that I actually own(ed). The NES and SNES came with games, but PS1, PS2, PSP, Gameboy Pocket, GBA, DS, PSP did not. I'm not sure about launch PS3s (did they all come with Pain?), but I specifically waited for the MGS4 bundle to get my PS3 for the game and DualShock 3. The PSVita will only come with a game if you get a special bundle, I believe the WiFi only model does not come with a game.
