It's not completely dead, but if Falcom played all its cards on the PC, they wouldn't be here right now. Better yet, you wouldn't be able to enjoy Zero no Kiseki or Ao no Kiseki... If you speak japanese, that is.

They are novels with visual elements.

RPGs can have visual novel elements in their cutscenes.

RPGs have combat, visual novels don't.
