Just started Dark Hero Days

Hi, all. I'm brand new here.

A few years ago, I beat Hour of Darkness. I say "beat" but I mean more like "experienced and stood back in awe." The gameplay, art, writing, everything exceeded and usurped my wildest expectations. I love that some designer somewhere said, "If they want to abuse game mechanics, let's make it fun to abuse game mechanics!" There's something so amazing about a game that has acknowledged the old notion of level-grinding and made it fun again. But I guess I'm preaching to the choir here.

Anyway, I just bought a PSP for the explicit purpose of playing through the port (that's a lot of P's. "Prinny" anyone?) Dark Hero Days. I'm about two hours in and it's crazy how quickly the memory comes back for menu selecting. Has anyone experienced that before? I feel like some kind of savant the way I speed through the menus and manipulate team attacks and throws. For that part of my mind, it's like no time at all has passed since the first game.

I'm excited. This game series is groundbreaking and I wish more people would experience and understand it.

The only reason I want to get it is because it has magichange in it and you get to play as mid boss and other characters

Dark Hero Days is a good game but if that's the reason your playing it then you may as well get D3 because you can play as everyone DHD has to offer except Fubuki in LoC.

Also Disgaea 3 changed the mechanics a fair bit, most notably messing up the damage calculation so much it rendered defensive builds non-viable.
As such, they play quite a lot differently.

True, about that. But in any Disgaea game defense stops mattering after a certain point in of the games.

Eventually, but defence starts to crack even mid-way into the main game of 3, and this is particularly after 2 when a tank build was completely viable.

Apparently all the games are different. Disgaea 1 is actually interesting because the story is full of life, the etna mode is short but interesting and its so much easier in the dark assembly (considering that I have a lvl 1000+ powerful majin with lvl 50 arcadias and a lvl 20 robo suit now... one arcadia had some residents move to there to make it powerful XD) because their lvls dont get doubled if you increase enemy rank. Plus you get powerful guests once your powerful enough. Its easy enough to lvl up and increase your power of your weapon. The only difference is that healer skills dont lvl up the character like they do in disgaea 2

Well yea I guess but they are all different. Thats what makes them unique (Robo suit now at lvl 50)
