DATA 11 - MASQUERADE

Ubi: "Pass him over"
Xeras handed him the cellphone. He put it against his ear and heard sounds.

Ubi: By analyzing the frequency and volume of this sound, it's logical to conclude one object fell on another. In addition, the interaction between the objects seem to be rather soft, just like that of a human body falling on a sofa or a bed. The deep and slow breathing sounds also indicate fatigue. More mental than physical, as physical exhaustion alone won't make a human breathe slow like this. Thus, this implies...
He took three seconds to think about it.

Ubi: "By analyzing the sounds I'm hearing, you're likely lying on the bed and pitting your own self right now, thinking life is annoying."
Lopez: "How you always do this is beyond me."


TFG: "Think he'll come?"
Red: "Doubt it."
The two were standing nearby, watching Ubi's attempt.

Xeras: "It is a bit unusual for him to avoid every event like that. Usually he'd join every party just for the sake of joining."
TFG: "Yeah... as annoying as that can be at times..."
Red: "As if you're not the same. Oh, right. You join, try to actually do something, but end up being useless"
TFG:
He then looked at the direction of the entrance. He just noticed how the door to the building was unlocked.

TFG: "Hey, aren't they opening it?"
Red: "Oh, right! We need to hurry up!"
TFG: "Yeah, it's gonna begin soon."
The trio sent a glance at Ubi, hoping to understand what was Lopez's reply. Just about then he put the cellphone down and hang up.


BGM: Kai

Ubi: "Negative reply. It's imperative we enter quickly then, as we ended up without any need to wait for anybody."
Red: "But I wanted moar ppl. How about Claymore? Did you manage to get in contact with him, Xeras?"
Xeras: "Nope. It's as if he just disappeared from this world. Not coming to school, not answering calls and isn't even at home. No idea what to make of it."
They were walking fast toward the entrance.

Red: "Odd..."
TFG: "That is not odd. That is a mystery! "
Ubi: "And it's not unlikely that Lopez, our 'self proclaimed young detective', actually investigates this incident as well... in his nonexistent free time between his actual part-time job and his student council duties."
They just reached the building and entered. Inside, white masks were handed out.



Xeras: "Huh? What's this crap?"
Ubi: "The flier indeed mentioned this party will be a bit... 'peculiar'. If this is not to your taste, we could leave. Incidentally, Red and TFG seem to think this is quite entertaining."
He said after seeing the two going through the different available masks while trying to find ones that satisfy them.

Ubi: "As do I find myself interested in what awaits us in this party."
He then grabbed one mask himself and put it on his face.
Xeras: "Well, whatever."
He took one as well.

After Red and TFG FINALLY chose their masks, and even that only after Xeras bugged them, they now entered a black hall. Only very dim green lights illuminated it. In this darkness, the white masks were more noticeable than ever.



Actually, the first thing you'd see when looking at someone - will be his mask. This setup required everyone to record a brand new image of their friends into their heads. Here, you could tell people apart only through their masks. Their hair, clothes and body structures all lost their values in being identifiers.

"Welcome to the masquerade. I'm the host. Call me... the Black Count."
A person, likely a man based on the voice, walked into the stage accompanied by a small figure, apparently a girl. The two were wearing masks as well.

"As you probably have already noticed, the laws here appear as if they have shifted. People whose appearance you know like the back of your hand - look entirely different in this darkness. You can't tell apart friends, enemies and to a certain degree - even yourself."
He now stretched his arms.

"Here, at this very moment, you are getting a glimpse of what is like to live in a word where everyone is connected. A world where the terms 'ally' and 'foe' cease to exist. A world where the borders between 'self' and 'others' blurred."

Xeras: "The heck that geezer wants?"
TFG: "Yeah, we came here to party not to be lectured."
A few similar remarks could be heard from other participants.

"Of course, none of you came here to take part in philosophy lessons."
He now put one hand on the top of the girl's head.
"However, I'd be glad if you remember this feeling you're experiencing now. This, at first, unfamiliar sensation where everybody perfectly belong and no conflicts can be born. None is your foe here. You are all in the same boat. Isn't understanding this feeling is taking one step toward unconditional peace?"

Xeras: "This guy is... over the top"
TFG: "Yeah... just WTF he wants?"
Red: "I actually find his speech fairly interesting. There's something about what he says."
Ubi: "Indeed. This getup and design manage to convey the deeper meanings he's talking about."
Xeras: "Whatever..."

"Well then."
He took the hand off the girl's hand. Then, put it into his pocket and took out an odd crystal ball.



"Now that all pieces are at their rightful places - we can begin."
His other hand pressed a certain button. A strange wave ran through the hall.

TFG: "What the-?! Earthquake!?"
Ubi: "Possibly."
They all had a bit of trouble to regain their balance after the wave hit them.

Just as they finally did, now their eyes were struck with shiny green light that illuminated everything.





BGM: Knights of the Holy Spear

"AHHHHHH"
"GAHHHHH"
Screams of humans in pain echoed through the hall. The masks they were wearing suddenly began to absorb the their energy.

Initiating scanning...
Danger!
External virus detected!
Proceed to elimination!

As those strange thoughts echoes through Ubi's head, he instinctively hit the mask he was wearing and broke it. He then saw Red also managing to get her mask off and Xeras hitting the wall with his face, shattering the mask into pieces. TFG however had troubles in removing the mask.

Red: "Oh that derp...!"
She ran toward him in order to help.

Xeras: "The hell is the deal with those masks!?"
Ubi: "They seem to operate on some mechanism that absorbs energy through-"
Xeras: "I'm not asking about that! Why the hell did they give us those masks!?"
He now turned toward the Black Count.


The crystal he was holding was now absorbing visible energy from the masks of the people.

"Yes. A big compression of energy shall pierce through the boundaries of this world and open a path to Shambhala."


TFG: "OUCH! You didn't have to KICK me of all things!"
Red: "Oh shut it! You couldn't even take off that mask by yourself! So you have no right to complain!"
She just kicked him in the face in order to break his mask.

"Oh, it seems like not everybody fall easily for the curse of the mask."
He was now examining those who managed take off their masks.
"Must be the irregulars. But that of a little importance. They will all soon be devoured by inhibitors of Shambhala."
Just as he said that line, a variety of demons began to pop out of thin air all around the hall.
"Let us be on our way, Alice."
He said to the little girl as he began to walk.
Alice: "Yes"


Red: "W-What are those!?"
TFG: "W-W-WAAAAH!"
He began to ran as various fire balls were fired toward him.

Red: "No! Come here you derp- AGHH!"



Ubi: "It seems like the simple principle of 'sticking together during danger' escapes him' "
Red: "That derp! I don't even-"
Xeras: "Well, this sure isn't good. We need to do something."
Red: "Did you guys feel as if you became stronger after that green light?"
Ubi: "Indeed. It seems like something invaded our bodies."



TFG: "WAAAAH!"



TFG: "NO!"


He was evading everything that the demons threw at him. That until...

TFG: "GO AWAY!"


A demon jumped on him and pushed him to the ground.

Xeras: "Haa!"


He kicked the demon away from TFG.

TFG: "Thanks, Xeras."
He got up and noticed Ubi was together with him.

TFG: "Huh? Where's Red?"
Ubi: "No need to worry about her. She can handle herself."
He then pointed in the direction where Red was fighting demons.



TFG: "Yeah, her kicks are sure something."
He said with a smile as he touched his face.
TFG: "But wait... doesn't she look a bit... strange...?"
Xeras turned around to him.



Xeras: "Yes, rather demonic, isn't she?"
TFG: "W-W-Wha!?"
Parts of Xeras's body transformed into that of a demon.

Xeras: "It seems like we gained some weird powers. We can fight those demons on equal grounds... if we ourselves become like them."
TFG: "Become like them...? What do you-"
He then noticed his own arm transforming into a demonic one.



Ubi: "While the concept of 'become a demon to fight demons' seem rather unethical, I fear we don't have much choice here. This is the optimal strategy in our current situation."
He was also on his way to complete his transformation.

"Well well. Look what we got here"

A Goblin made his way toward them with a confident smile. He was accompanied by two other demons.

"Tee-hee. Those little boys sure gonna be fun to play around with~"

An Alp and....

"They are like little kids that don't know anything. Even I'm more adult than them!"

A Poltergeist.



Xeras: "Eh? So there are actually demons who can work together?"
Ubi: "In practice, the concept of 'cooperating' in not unbeknownst even to the simplest life forms such as ants."
Xeras: "What that makes TFG then?"
Ubi: "A good question indeed"
TFG: "Hey! I had to run away to evade attacks!"


Alp: "Oh, so cute~ They are teasing their comrade~ I wanna do that too~"
Goblin: "Heh. Idiots who can't even sense danger."
Poltergeist: "Soooooooooo childish!"
Xeras and Ubi now turned toward them.

Xeras: "Well, looks like we'll have to work together here"
Ubi: "Indeed. This is the best course of action. Incidentally, a few images popped in my head once the green light hit us."
Xeras: "Oh?"
Ubi: "And for some unexplained reason, after seeing those, a desire to smack you real hard has surfaced."
Xeras: "Huh... Well, keep that for later. We got more urgent issues here."
Ubi: "Just makes sure you don't die until I get my chance to smack you real good"
Xeras: "Gotcha"




Law and Chaos join forces against greater evil!? New enemies join the battle royal!?

I think I better end this turn on 5/7 because I wrote this early today anyway (by like 8 hours earlier than DL I think). So overall it'll sorta be about 56 hours in total, instead of... freakin' 104...
