No, it does not.

I just checked on one of my pawns' level...
... if I were to fire, then re-hire the same pawn... then she would be over 30 levels higher...
... that person must be really great at this game to level so fast...

Dragonborn? Wrong game maybe? Though the chest thing kinda says that she was just making fun of it by comparing it to Skyrim...

No, your characters heart is ripped out of their chest and devoured by the dragon. You are the Arisen, the one that is chosen by the dragon to rise up and lead the Pawn army to destroy it (more or less)

it's a really fun game. I'm having a better time with it than skyrim tbh..

I have no clue how long this game is, but here are my thoughts so far.

Pros:
- Combat. I love it.
- Pawn system. Awesome.
- Customization.
- Open World.
- No fast-traveling (Ferrystones excluded)
- The vocations.
- Voice acting. It's quite good and was done right, in my opinion.
- Difficulty. Really makes you watch what you're doing.

Cons:
- Story. I like the idea, but none of the characters are important. It was done so poorly.
- Lip syncing. It's AWFUL.
- Every NPC is a hollow shell.
- Pawns are also hollow shells. They speak, but never actually say anything.
- Main character has no voice. This works in Zelda, since no one actually talks, but it doesn't work in a game with voice acting.

Mixed:
- Graphics. Some stuff looks great, and other stuff looks bad.

I'm sure there's something I missed, but I can't think of it right now.

I disagree. Pawns are rather important and you should pay attention to what they say especially if your using other players pawns and allowing yours to go out and learn, they will have important information to say about the monsters and the world around you if you allow them to gain knowledge about their world.

I think the point is they have no personality or anything. They're just a bit vacant.

Yeah, what Ring said. Sure, they tell you important stuff about the game, but they never say anything other than what's relevant to your quests, the monsters you're fighting, etc. When you try "conversing" with them, they spit out one line of text that doesn't really mean anything. And plus there's the general dialogue they say.

"You humans do make a lot of expressions." Like wtf?

My point is that they should have a personality of their own and actually be interesting characters other than just hired muscle.

Isn't that exactly the point of pawns, though? Soulless bodies with no will nor emotions that the Arisen commands. That's what they are.

No. It's an RPG. Even if the game's fully voiced, the main character should remain a voiceless blank for you to fill in any way possible, at least within the boundaries of the game (boo!). Sadly, those boundaries in Dragon's Dogma are always present in the main quest, "the Arisen" being just another name for "Mary Sue with plot armor thicker than Witchwood's fog". Or well, so far, at least.

Well, those are just my opinions, guys. I wasn't expecting everyone to agree with me. I have different tastes for RPGs than a lot of people here.

It is a bit weird if you character just sort of stares during conversations when everyone else is talking.
See: Fable, although that's a particularly bad case you simply do a goldfish impression when there's a conversation.

Yeah, but in this game cutscenes have more action than words, and conversations zoom into a not-quite-first-person-but-still-doesn't-show-your-character perspective.

That's not too bad then, at least it doesn't constantly show your character's face just blankly staring at people.

I really love how they designed this game where the cobmat pretty much never gets boring. Each vocation offers a new style of gameplay that always feels fresh.

Wife is bored with it already. Plus—and while I concede that graphics don't mean much—it looks utterly eye-rending. I think she used something along the lines of "a shitty attempt at elder scrolls" while playing. xD

*scratches head*
-aside from some faces... this game doesn't look bad at all.

This game would be a breath of fresh air after playing... I don't know, World of Warcraft?

Although they're not even the same genre, even disregarding scale.
