in japan, things work differently. tsunako owns the rights to the character design, but RED owns the character as a whole (but NOT the design, meaning tsunako could take red's design and make a completely different character, and the company couldn't do a single thing). tsunako is allowed to distribute as many calenders and charts as SHE feels (the first time was a tpyo) because of the doujin rights of being able to distribute a someone else's creation as long as it has a physical product and doesn't infringe on the rights by completely copying the story of the original product.
