*Insert raging of fans*

Anyway.

One of the big reasons I'm suggesting this particular series is that I think NISA should really try to publish quality works if they intend to do anything at all. More importantly, I think they should try to publish works that can appeal to more than just a hardcore anime/gamer crowd; MMO's are a subject widely understood by younger people (even those who aren't big on consoles may still play online games), and there's enough American/European influences in the series (rather than just Asian) that I think people could still relate. By trying to publish something that can appeal to a broader audience, NISA may also be able to get enough people interested that they'll pay attention to its future releases and help make any novel-publishing division a success.

At the very least, if President Niikawa is serious about wanting to publish novels, I think this would be a fantastic starting point.

Viz has also been sitting on their license for the Shakugan no Shana and To Aru Majutsu no Index novels. All the while, not producing a thing to show for it. It's rather annoying. ><

Well VIZ at least managed two volumes of Shana.

...I should probably read those. I don't even know how old they are or how long they've been sitting on my shelf.

Actually, they released six manga, I have all six of the manga. I only have two of the novels, and they only list having ever released the first two volumes. =/

*Ahem* This thread is about NISA publishing stuff, including why they should/shouldn't publish Light Novels and what they ought to publish if the opinion is they should. Please move discussion about works owned by other companies to an appropriate thread. I'd really like for this thread to try and stay on topic, since I think there's a lot of potential for the market if NISA can manage to get over the initial hurdles.

I will say that I feel NISA publishing novels is jumping the gun before they've gotten into Manga. I think manga has a closer reach to their current fanbase, would probably be a bit cheaper to produce and translate (less words to translate), and would be a better experiment for getting into that specific type of media. If the manga thing goes well, then they could/should move onto novels. Baby steps.

Oh, heck yeah.

But this is the Novel Publishing thread. If you want to make a Manga Publishing thread, though, I'm cool with that. ^^

Well, if NISA ever does go the LN route, I'd definitely be interested in having them publish books in the smaller bunkobon format, like Seven Seas did for their light novel imprint.

Not sure how hard it would be to acquire licenses and how they're related to companies that have rights to the manga/animes, but there's definitely stuff out there that could cater to a Western audience, like Kokoro Connect, Sword Art Online or even Toradora.

If NISA ever gets a novel publishing division going, and if there's sufficient interest, it's entirely possible that it might happen. For now, why don't we try and figure out what could actually get the ball rolling successfully?
