Should NIS outright buy the Ar tonelico IP from Namco Bandai

Postby B4ULoveShine » Thu Nov 08, 2012 2:00 pm

I cannot help but notice how Namco Bandai has been busier with other IPs, to the point that they're even losing money on others.

Case in point: Namco Bandai has been busier with both Dragon Ball & Naruto, just to fund Tales.

With that said, would Namco Bandai be better off selling the Ar tonelico IP to NIS/NIS outright buy this IP from Namco Bandai?

Didn't Gust co-develop these games with Branpresto? Gust is apart of Tecmo Koei nowadays so would NIS even be able to get the team together? Also NIS is working on their own games so buying other properties is probably something for later. The money NIS has needs to be spent on those games.

Would I like them to? Yes. But it's not realistic at all.

Yes, while the "No, because Namco will charge Dragon Ball money..." option sounds like a blatant King's Ransom demand, Namco can sell off this IP to NIS for a discounted price, especially when Japan sales for this franchise is pretty much loose change in comparison to Dragon Ball. In addition, if Namco Bandai sells off this franchise to NIS, that's one less IP for Namco Bandai to worry + NBGI's overall net profits would be higher in the long run, since they'd no longer worry for Ar tonelico profits to match a specific profit target; plus, they'll have more money for other franchises like Tekken, SRW, Summon Night, Tales, Gundam, and even their traditional license cash cows like Dragonball, Naruto, Kamen Rider, Ultraman, to name a few.

Yeah um I don't think so. Would it be nice? Of course, but just not possible.

Let me get this straight, you're asking NIS, a small niche gaming company, to buy an IP off of Namco Bandai, one of the biggest gaming/anime/all-other-kinds-of-stuff companies in Japan?

I mean, that would be nice, but...

Well technically Banpresto publishes it in Japan (including Ar tonelico III/Qoga), but Namco owns Banpresto with Gust as the main developer for the series. I don't think Namco really wanted the series. It just happened to become in their posession when Namco bought Banpresto. Plus you have Gust who is now owned by Tecmo Koei.

@LAMV If possible, given how Ar tonelico is low on Namco Bandai's priority list; even an AKB48 dating sim got more attention than this! >_<;

@Ar Tonelico Just comparing the Ar tonelico IP with SRW, the latter already won, especially when Namco also owns Gundam and Sunrise studio; Gundam is one of the Holy Trinity of SRW.

Also, for what it's worth, it would be Tecmo-Koei buying the IP now, not NIS/NISA. NIS buying the IP would just make things an even bigger mess.

:lol:
It really would

As for the question, nah. Like others have said, for TK to buy the license would be ideal, because then Gust would have free reign with it.

I would love to see more from "Ar Tonelico" and I wouldn't be opposed to NIS nabbing the IP for the franchise. They have worked very well with GUST in the past to get the games out and while I like other things NAMCO BANDAI does, I feel that Ar Tonelico would have a better chance of being continued (or at least utilized further) with NIS.

So...my answer is "yes" in the interest of continuation. ^-^
