Since I haven't heard anyone's opinion on it yet, I'd like to remind everyone that I've posted a preview for the PS3 version's gameplay on both page 8 and in my OP. vampko, I think you in particular should give it a watch. That way you could see the difference in art style and how it is played. :3

I thought that Ryukishi's art was something everyone either got used to, so your disliking it is actually rather surprising to me as an Umineko fan. xD I just hope you can get sucked into the story like other fans have. If not, then perhaps Umineko just isn't your thing. Different people have different tastes, after all. I'm not going to hate you if you don't like it.

Ryukishi07 knows his art isn't perfect, either. It's improved greatly since Higurashi, but he knows it's not professional level, and he doesn't advertise his VNs as having professional-quality art. If and when he comes out with another visual novel, I'll bet the art will have improved even more.

There's a reason I've been specifying the PC version, when I watched your trailer I saw how the art was actually quite good for the PS3 port. But, that doesn't change who the characters are. Anyways, today will most likely not be the day I can really get a grip on this game, as I have to finish all my coursework for the week.

I'm a little disappointed that the Umineko fanbase isn't coming here to make their requests for this game known. Seriously, Umineko has a massively large fanbase and I have seen many people clamoring for a Localization of this PS3 version on other forums. I saw this thread was up to 10 pages and I hoped it was full of everyone trying to convince NISA to take this project on.

Anyway, yes, I joined just to say that I do indeed really hope they at least consider this. I know Sony gave them crap about Visual Novels in the past, but I don't think Sony realizes how large the Umineko fanbase is. It's one of the most popular Visual Novels of all time, and the desire for this PS3 version is pretty staggering. As it stands, I am already definitely buying a PS3 for this game, and I'd rather not have to import the Japanese version since I don't understand Japanese. But I will if I have to. Even if I do import the game, I'd still buy the English version if it came out. That's how much I love Umineko and want this PS3 version. I know there are tons of people who feel the same way.

Anyway, vampko, Episode 1 is slow and takes awhile to pick up, and the story doesn't really become amazing until Episode 2 (and continues to get more amazing with each Episode). But if you don't like it that much that early on, don't force yourself to play it. Like I said, the Umineko fanbase is massive, both in Japan and America, but that doesn't mean every person ever is going to like it. It could just not be your thing. Either way, don't fill this thread with negativity.

We have to be positive. We have to at least hold out for a shining ray of light that NISA will at least consider this. I will continue to be positive until they specifically come out and say they won't. We all need to start thinking this way. After all, without love, it cannot be seen.

If Sony America denies this because of it's VN status, then I'm convinced that the son of Bernie Stolar and his RPG-hatred must be working there.

Come on, NISA! Convince them! It may be a big project, but I hope you guys do it.

It's only fair to get a negative opinion in a thread. If you never see the opposing view point, then you don't really know how much the game is wanted.

I have decided it's not worth continuing unless all the parents (cept Natuhime and maybe Rosa) get killed early on. Their bantering and superiority complexes are making me want to kill all of them off myself. I don't like a story that makes me want to kill off half the cast. All the kids of the parents have got their charm though, and every servant, cept Gohda is really likable. And, to be honest, I find I have more like for the grandpa than all the parents.

If I had the ability, I would be the killer :|

And all this talk they do just makes me feel depressed and frustrated, which I don't think is the best way to open up a book. I also don't think a super long expository works very well either. Too much story, with no real excitement.

I don't know how much longer I can go on, but I will try my best. If it weren't for Battler, Maria, Jessica, George, Shannon, Kanon, Kumasawa, Genji, Nanjo, and the grandpa guy, I would not be able to cotinue this at all. Oh, and I really feel for Natsu-chan. Rosa's acceptable, but that's about it. The rest of the cast makes me want to (what I am about to say is VERY gruesome, these are the true feelings I have when I read this)
Spoiler:
take a knife, a dull one, stab their eyes, slowly pulling them out, proceeed to skin them alive, pooling all the blood in a bucket, feeding the blood back to them as I start hacking away at their bones cutting off limbs one by one
For the grandpa, he seems pretty cruel, so I might add him into my spree....

I can at least give kudos for making characters I already hate with a deep and morbid passion so early on.

I post in this forum before this thread, but I must say I'm part of Umineko and Higurashi's fanbase, I want this badly, I just don't think Sony will let any company localize a VN for the PS3. At the best chance, it'll be DD.

Ohohohoho, Keep playing. Also, note that the characters are supposed to be unlikeable, I feel. I won't go into spoiler teritory, but you're not wrong for hating the adults.

Naturally, I registered to show my support, Here's hoping it gets released here!

I don't think there is anyone that liked the adults in Episode 1. In my opinion, I didn't really start to like all the cast until Episode 3. But since the main characters for most of the story are the ones who are likable from the start, it wasn't an issue.

And, yes, the money talk and arguments in the beginning of Episode 1 are not really fun to read. But it doesn't last THAT long and what they say comes into play in later Episodes. At least read until the First Twilight and a bit after, and if you don't like it then stop. Again, the game gets amazing with Episode 2 but if you hate Episode 1 that much then why force yourself? Like I said, no matter how many people love something, there will always be people who can't get into it. It's not a bad thing.

I also wasn't trying to say you can't express your dislike for it if you don't like it, but don't turn that into all the thread is about because there are hundreds (or more?) of people out there begging someone to bring this over to America, and their voices need to be heard too.

I got my way on through the series was watching Higurashi (Season 1+2) and then watching Umineko (Season 1), then you'll like the game right from the start. I know that's a lot, but the anime is great (both of them).

Well, all I have to say, is that the sound is pretty much not really all that important so far. I can't really see how this could be called a 'sound novel'. The story's interesting, but I just can't justify spending more than 20 dollars to have this. That's all really.

That, and I'd rather just read a text-only version of this, all this clicking is really annoying me. Even pressing a button constantly would be annoying.

I just can't get off the fence on this one...

After having experienced when others say the story picks up, I have decided this just isn't for me. It's way too slow, and I am tired of not
Spoiler:
seeing Beatrice. I think it would be much more interesting if I saw Beatrice
. Plus, I think this would just play out better as an anime. I also would not be against reading this as a book. The sounds really do nothing to help it in my opinion. It just feels like too much reading, mixed with too little action. If I was reading a book, it would be different, as I would be expected to play out everything in my head. But, instead I get stills every so often only slightly displaying the images I should be playing out in my head.

It is a nice story, but I can't support this when there are much better choices out there that actually work well with their medium. At the very least, this has me actually interested in the anime much more now.
