How would you rate NISA?

Postby lopez » Sat Jan 15, 2011 6:39 am

What score/grade would you give NISA as a whole? (i.e. A-F and/or 0-5/ 0-10/ 0-100)

For example, how would you rate them on:
- Customer Service
- Quality Control
- Marketing
- Anime/Game
- Websites
- Etc....

Are there some things you wish they would do? What are they doing right? What can they improve on?Constructive criticism?

Note: This is a subjective topic, so contrasting opinions are welcome

Customer Service: B
Reason: NISA is, to be perectly blunt, not a perfect company. They have had errors (i.e. Ar Tonelico 2), but a lot of the time, they also work to fix any problems that they do have. Remember the Volume 1 sets of Toradora and Persona-trinity soul-? Disc issues? They realized there was a problem, and they did something about it. Twice, if necessary. This company doesn't always get everything exactly right, but at least they work hard to make their fans happy, and they've done enough good as long as I've known them that I don't hold small errors against them.

Quality Control: B-
Reason: Ar Tonelico 2, and Toradora/Persona Volume 1. *Sigh* And I heard stuff about DLC going bad. HOWEVER, I also hear that they usually work to fix QC issues pretty fast, which is better than some people do. In this age of DLC, a lot of companies are happy to put out totally unfinished products and then do all kinds of patches later, but NISA at least usually has most of the main content already in...

Marketing: B
Reason: Very niche audience. I've seen a print ad, like, once. And that was in Right Stuf's shopping magazine. For the people who are interested, I think they ultimately find their way to the company, so maybe they don't need to advertise too much, either. But at least some is good.

Products: A
Reason: Toradora? I reviewed it. Good score. Persona? Different from most anime, but taken for what it's meant to do, not bad at all. Pandora Hearts? Has personality. Wagaya no Oinari-sama? It WASN'T a harem! Despite totally having the forumula. And that's just the anime. The games are the ones that make me laugh; NIS is my prime company for video game fun, since it's flat-out enjoyable most of the time. They're not afraid to play around, and I just plain like the stuff they put out. It's because of Neptunia, AT3, and Disgaea 4 that I'm getting a PS3 soonish. I wouldn't do that for another company.

- Customer Service : A+ : They respond well, accurately, and individually. I've asked about unannounced games and gotten (now proven correct) hints as to the answer months ahead of time. I have also asked about how their NISA store operates as far as revenue generated versus a mass retailer and got a personalized and detailed response there.
- Quality Control : C : Ar tonelico 2, Toradora vol 1, courting with censorship (at least early on)
- Marketing : B : Prinny bombs are informative, but I run adblock 24/7 so I can't say much more than that.
- Anime/Game: A : Good selection, they finish series they started.
- Websites: B : Fine, nothing special

Too lazy to do actual ratings, but they're great on everything but quality control. They go through phases with that where you'll have excellently handled games (Disgaea series) and very poorly handled games (Ar Tonelico 2).
Waiting on the other mk2 avatars.

I like NISA, there my favorite small publisher & one of my favorite game/ japenese media localization companies overall. I'd give them a Grade of B+ . They are pretty good at listening to the fans, and give us alot of what we want, although somtimes they make us squirm wondering if they will get it or not (but then again dont all companies, lol.) And I really wish they would work on getting the rest of the Disgaea Products (Artbooks, Manga, LightNovels, Drama CD's,etc) in the states...for big fans & completists like me. If not through themsleves directly, maybe through a partnership.

but yea overall NISA is one of the top Localization companies IMPO. I give em a thumbs up, a pat on the back... and of course.. a box of cookies, lol. ;)

Quality control is really the only thing holding them back.

Personally I'm still not all that confident in their abilities yet. That may change with time though.

I think in terms of games they bring over and the companies that they are partnering up with are what makes this company great. They also are very good at getting back to you if you have a problem and the quick turn around they did when they produced faulty discs for their first run of anime was above par.

The issues I have though is there online store. I love that they have bonuses no other store gets. I love having collectors editions and free stuff. But the reliablity of the store is something they need to work on. 90% of the time I order from them there is some sort of issue. Yes they are very good at getting in touch with you, but the fact that there are issues so often is quite a pain. I have also gotten the line we will look into an issue, but I really doubt they followed through. Once they got their money I think they didn't bother to look.

Also they do still have issue with game quality stealth. Two games that I can think of just last year had freezing issues. One being Rorona and the other being Sakura Wars for the wii. Maybe just spend a little more time testing.

Also the anime issue I previously mentioned, though I added that into the plus category because of how well they dealt with the issue in a speedy manner and fixed the issue with no cost to us. But the initial quality issue was still there.

I feel bad after my post as there is a bunch of negativity in there, but I do really like this company. They are bringing us games and anime that we might have never seen otherwise. The staff is also friendly and helpful. It's great that the forum has a feedback section and a game request section that employees actually read and put into motion. I was pleasantly surprised when I mentioned a skipping issue on the first volume of their animes and it was fixed right with the next volume.

The fact that a company cares this much and shows dedication to their fans gives me great hope that they are working hard to be the best they can be for both them and their fans and that little issues as well as the big ones will be fixed in the future.

This is pretty much what I was referring to. I tend not to begrudge companies for a few, "This guy are sick's," but when games regularly have technical and or translation issues it starts to make me worried.

The only reason I'm buying so many NISA games is because they're actually the only ones consistently translating and releasing JRPGs for the PS3. Not Japanese-developed western games, but games that are totally Japanese.

Atlus seems to be slowing down, and both Squeenix and Bamco have totally lost touch with their customerbase.

I'd say it's more like a default choice-- like if you want to buy R1 anime today, it will most likely come from Funimation.

I'd have to give them an A-, and that's only because of QA and the fact that they listen to the non localization crowd when it comes to localizations.

I know there were issues with Ar tonelico 2 that were worth complaining about, but the fact is it hasn't stopped me from replaying the game over and over from time to time.
