Disgaea will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2013 with the latest game in the series, Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness.

As an SRPG, the battles in Disgaea take place on a gridded map. The standard battle system has been enhanced with puzzle aspects, over-the-top battle animations, and a very customizable character creation system! There are many fun things that are unique to this series!

This game is set in the "Netherworld," where demons run rampant. All of the characters are very unique in their own respective ways. The story progresses as these character meet with each other. Many crazy things happen in the Netherworld. You'll laugh! You'll cry!

For Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness, we took another look at the systems and strove to provide new ways to find enjoyment! The main characters are Laharl, Etna, and Flonne. They were the main characters of the first Disgaea game, and are probably the three most popular characters!
It's a new history for Disgaea!

Summary

After the death of the extremely charismatic previous Overlord— The Netherworld is plunged into a time of war, where demons fight to become the next Overlord. After a long series of battles, one young demon rises to the top. His name is Laharl, the only son of the previous Overlord. With the help of the Netherworld's most selfish demon, an oddball angel, and even a couple of humans with a super robot, Laharl cements his claim over the title of Overlord.

Several years later, the next adventure of the uber self-centered Overlord, Laharl, and his allies is about to begin.

Prologue

After the death of the Overlord, King Krichevskoy, his son rose up to become the next Overlord.
Several years later...

Laharl has a big problem.

HOW COME NO ONE KNOWS I'M THE OVERLORD!?

Although he became the Overlord, his charisma was as lacking as the previous Overlord's was overflowing. Because he rules through brute force alone, only a handful of demons accept Laharl's reign. Most demons in the Netherworld live their lives however they want, without even knowing who the Overlord is.

Laharl decides that he needs to get his name out there more. With the help of Etna and Flonne, Laharl tries to use force to become an even better Overlord than his father was!

It is then that a mysterious package arrives for the "Overlord."

"If it's for the Overlord, then it must be for me!"

He happily begins to open the package, only to find out what's inside...

Setting

The Netherworld, where Laharl lives, is all about survival of the fittest. Here, doing bad things is actually honorable. Therefore, in the Netherworld, crime is considered to be a good thing. Since this is the world that they live in, backstabbing is a daily occurrence! Don't trust anyone. Not even your friends. As soon as anyone thinks you're useless, you might just get stabbed... In order to survive in a world like this, you'll have to be more cunning and evil than anyone else! The one who can use their charisma to rule over these brutal and evil demons is the Overlord. The Overlord is the one who everyone both fears and respects. The Overlord lives in the Overlord's Castle, and is always on the lookout for anyone who is trying to take over the Netherworld.

That's a compliment to a demon.

Cookies or Overlord!? Is this how they do things in the Netherworld or just pure stupidity!?

Rebellion

After King Krichevskoy died, and following a series of battles, Laharl becomes the new Overlord.

However, an organization called the "Krichevskoy Group" comes out of nowhere to challenge him for the throne.

Since they deem Laharl to be unworthy of being the Overlord, they appoint their own candidate for the position. However, Laharl doesn't allow this to stand.

A battle between Laharl and the Krichevskoy Group begins right here, right now!

It was said that Yuie flowers, which are native to Celestia, never bloom in the Netherworld. However, for some unknown reason, fields of wild Yuie flowers start blooming! The areas where the flowers are blooming suddenly have a refreshing feeling about them, kind of like Celestia. However, these flowers start spreading throughout the Netherworld at an alarming rate. Grosso and the rest of the Krichevskoy Group are convinced that this is part of an invasion by Celestia, and start pointing fingers at Laharl for striking up relations between the Netherworld and Celestia, and thus deem him unworthy of being the Overlord. What is happening in the Netherworld? What is causing this? Can Laharl stop the spread of the Yuie flowers!? This crisis can't be solved through pure strength alone... Laharl's worthiness of being Overlord is put to the test.

Incidents

Due to the appearance of the Krichevskoy Group and Barbara, an eerie feeling looms heavily over the Netherworld. In the meantime, Laharl and company continue with their comical and stupid ways!

But what's this? Something strange is happening in the Netherworld...

"Oh no! I overslept!"

"Wh-What the hell!? I look like I'm Player 2!"

Flonne (who always wakes up early, no matter how late she stays up watching anime) oversleeps, and Etna turns blue-ish!?

It seems as if something is somehow affecting everyone in the Netherworld...

And to top it all off...

Etna and company look to see where this bossy-sounding voice is coming from, and lo and behold who they see standing there is none other than...
